Help required.

Bought some Bundy tube to make my fuel lines.

Can't get it to bend with-out kinking.  Kinks doing a less than 45 degree, kinks when crc applied, kinks when doing a bit at a time and moving the tube along.

Where am I going wrong??

Using Bosch steel bundy tube 5/8.

Pics to follow

How are you operating the bending tool??? It's either the bending tool, the tool operating the tool or tubing with a very thin wall.

Maybe get it a little bit warm first?

I bent up brake lines no dramas using a pipe to press against.

Marty,

You need to lock the tube to the bender,

so when you move the handle around the degree curve,

the tube cannot take the easy way out, in other words, move forward and kink.

At the entry, zero end, that is where the tube must stay.

I say this bender is only for copper say, and you need a clamping model, other wise, more force will snap this handle.

Done heaps of 316 stainless bending for the Acid and Corrosion Industries

Use a Black Marker to show where the start of the measurement is, and you can also see creep

Told you that tubing was rubbish... thats why I use the stuff I lent you (3/16)

Bosch bought PBR and thats their offering... rubbish

Not sure I can get the same tubing in 5/16 though

But might be able to get something better

Some gentle heat might help... but makes things fiddly

Thanks guys, I will try some of these ideas, was also told to fill with sand.

I'd like new tubing but may have to clean-up my old stuff if this fails.

My old long piece is blocked, compressed air Fail, metho and air gun - fail.  Need to try some flexible wire maybe to poke in there?

Let me know Datto.  Also how do you get that rib line on the end of fuel pipe?

So far spent $40 on tube and two fittings, and lots of time driving around.  Bit of a wasted day off really.

Marty

Nothing intrinsically wrong those tube benders Dave. I've got one similar to Marty's and it bends 5/16", 1/4" and 3/16" bundy no problems at all.

I reckon it's the coiled tube that is the problem, thinner wall so it straightens out and bends easier by hand.

Try using a bender designed for bigger tube like 1/2 benders.

Or try slowly bending around a pole like a street sign or something? If you fill with sand i dare say you would have to keep the ends blocked. Maybe even tapped and bolted.

Just buy better tubing.

I had no issues bending some 5/16" Bundy i got from summit years ago.

And the 3/8" alloy stuff i got from Summit not quiet as many years ago was an absolute dream to work with.

Cheers.

Weird, We get the same looking tube from Coventry's and I just use a bender exactly like the one you have pictured and it bends quite well... Maybe its a different brand not sure...

Apparently Enzed sell straight sections that are much easier to bend tho.

Try filling the tube with sand then bend. Block both ends

Is your tube 5/8 or 3/8, it looks like 3/8 in the pictures. I have a good quality bender for 3/8 tube you can try.

Have you tried using some grease on the tube where you are bending it in the bender ? Using heat will make it easier to do but you run the risk of dis colouring your tube .Have you tried to Flare it yet ?Does it split ?

Flareing worked well. Sorry tube wasn't 5/8 it's 5/16. I won't try heat because of discoloration. I tried CRC but not grease. I'll fill it with sand blast sand and try that.

Did you Double Flare the tube? And what flare tool did you use as I've never had much luck with the cheap and cheerful kits.

Also interested in knowing if the "rib line"at the end is doable?

Enzed Welshpool should be able to flare and/or bend the tube for you.

Mastercool have a tool that will make the GM fuel line and push connect flares on 5/16 and 3/8. I have one if you want to try it.

Earls make tubing beaders to suit 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2, 1 3/4, 2 in. tube. They are sold separately or in a kit. Browns Radiators did have the kit.

I also have a tube straightener which makes it easy to get a straight tube to start with.

I would have to agree with Dave (gaspower)
Make sure the trailing end is locked in place and cannot move - the tube then has nowhere to go but to follow the radius of the bender

By the looks of that the tube is pulling through the fixed handle of the bender
