Anyone have some tips for floppy mirror syndrome. FMS

I got the mirror ball back from chromer and started to assemble unit before getting mirror glass cut and fitted. Can't get the thing to stay in one spot.

These were a shit at the best of times, did anyone have a trick to fix this?

Nope, I had a similar mirror on my car, and ended up swapping it cause it kept drooping while parked and I could get it to stay in one position but not a useful one.

I'm pretty sure someone mentioned getting it in the right position and gluing it but I wouldn't do that on your car, even though no one could ever tell unless you told them.

I'm planning on putting an original one back on at some point so if you come up with a fix let us know :-)

Ive made some new ball cups.. Quite easy to do.. I had some stianless sheet, made the cups, then made a dolly the same as the ball and used that to get the "ball cup" shape...

I do have to make some more.. Ill do a few and pass on.. No charge to fellow forum members..

Thanks guys, Mike, it does look like a new ball cap would help and that's a very kind offer I'd like to take. I'll put this aside, plenty of other stuff to do. :-) I think the original ball caps stretch and now both plates are fully together with little pressure on ball. Doesn't help that my ball is shiney and smooth. Marty

You could Machine up a reverse Dolly plug of the Cap Plate Marty,

and give them a re-crimp back a bit.

Yep, you need clearance between the two ball Cap Plates,

so when the pivot Ball is between them, they can grip.
