In reference to this post. Can somebody please explain if you need a globe holder with two wires coming out, one for power one earth. Or just a single wire and metal clips on globe holder to earth on dash.

Thanks

I need to make up my own harness for my GTR dash with autometer gauges. I will still be using the standard lights for indicators and brake warning. Problem is, I don't have a factory harness that I can modify, so I need to buy the bulb holders to suit.

Can anyone confirm if the 49818 push in globe holders is suitable for the indicator and brake warning globes in a GTR dash?

Thanks in advance.

None of those Narva bulb holders appear to be the same as the genuine indicator holders..
If you can get your hands on an old LJ 6 or 4cyl, or TA Torana 4cyl or HT/HG Holden STD dash harness head you will get all the correct bulb holders you will need (with correct coloured wiring attached).
Failing that PM me, I have some here with wires attached.

Ok, it's not a massive deal. Your link doesn't work, but there is a narva bulb holder (push in type) that is the exact fit for the 4 outer instrument gauges on the gtr dash. I'm pretty sure they are grounded and require one wire. If not you can loop them to a common ground. As for the twist ins, personally I couldn't find any so what I did was take all of the bulb holders from the standard dash, drill a small hole through the plastic on one side, and poke a wire through, soldering it to the tab on the other side. You have to take care to bend the soldered tab out of the way, so that the other tab can make the ground.

There should be pictures in my build thread.

These are the ones for the HT Holden. So I assume one is power and one is earth. Anybody know how to wire these up.

Part No./Description

49818 Bayonet Cap Globe Holder

This is push in type

As for the twist in ones for the rest of the dash, im not sure, but if you dont want to pay $30 odd for 2 holders, you can just modify the original type like i mentioned. This is because the standard dash uses a printed circuit to power and ground the lights (no wires). The GTR dash, however, has no circuit, only metal (ground). If you solder a wire to one of the globe holders metal tangs and bend it away so it doesnt touch earth, you can give it power and earth at the same time. .

Thanks Jacob,

Les, H1166 is for a printed circuit dash not the GTR one.

Cheers

Hi Glenn,

Instrument bulb holder with built in earth tang - I believe this is a HT/HG warning light harness, basically the same as 1972 LJ Torana 6 & 4cyl.

Instrument bulb holder with earth wire (no built in earth tang) - LH or LX Torana warning light harness.
