Understanding GTR brake booster to master cylinder

Booster to tip of pushrod is set to 8.280mm as mentioned in manual.
Piston hole depth in master is approx 40mm. This section sits in booster by about 20mm. Therefore there is a gap of about 20mm from rod tip to piston. This doesn't make sense? So when pedal is pushed nothing happens for 20mm?
I think it's done as the manual but it doesn't seem logical.
Am I missing something?
Cheers

Your looking at the LC piston depth
The LJ is different piston depth
And as per your text message
Yes you have the seals around the right way... sorry no phone credit

Hi
As far as I know there are 2 different length pushrod/primary piston combos ie LC and LJ. I fixed mine by changing the primary piston for a longer reach. It now works fine, but I still don't know whether I have an LC or an LJ combo.

Hi Neil,
Do you mean I have the LC rod length measurement? Or my piston hole is too deep. (which would shit me)
I can wind the rod out a fair bit, just need the measurement.

The LC is about 8mm and the LJ is about 25mm
So the booster/pushrod must be LC and the master cylinder kit you bought with pistons is LJ

I reckon it was close to 25mm before I wound it down to 8.280mm. I blame the friggin LJ workshop manual.

The same thing happens with the XU1 booster Marty,
Lc to LJ is 17mm difference ( 25 - 8mm ) too.

If that was off the black car it is LC.

Tried winding my pushrod out to 25mm but only got to 20mm, so I have an LC push rod.
Questions:
Is the Threaded section longer on the LJ or is it the back part of rod thats longer.
Can I pull out the rod from booster and swap it, or does the booster need to be disassembled?
Cheers

You just swap the compatible Rod Marty
Just take your one for reference

You can pull the rod out without pulling the booster apart
And the rod length is different not just the threaded acorn nut
You could always get someone to make up a new longer acorn
Make it strong though so it doesn't bend under hard braking
