LJ Bonnet alignment.

I've just fitted my bonnet and can't get the rear to sit down. The rear hinge bolt that attaches to inner skirt won't go down enough.
Before when I test fitted bonnet I could get it to go down more than required.
So what's changed since then:
Different hinges.
Bonnet lacing fitted.
Hinge drip rails installed.
On inspection I think it's the drip rail holding the rear of hinge up. Thinking of removing hinge and flattening that section of drip rail to allow extra movement.
Has anyone else found that to be an issue?
Or any other tips?
Cheers

Hi
Try the remedy at post #5 on this old thread http://www.gmh-toran...-hinges-for-lj/
If this doesn't work then the pivot holes in the hinges have excessive wear and have been elongated. The remedy then is to rebuild the hinges or find replcements will less wear.

Most likely problem is a combination of worn hinges and new hood lace.

Option 1
Remove the hinges and find a suitable support to place under the head of the rivit. Heat the rivit to cherry red and using a centre punch in the middle of the rivit pound away checking the hinge tightness as you go. The side you pound is the side that is flared from factory and it's not so noticeable as there are the factory flared marks. I did this procedure for all the rivits and had a pretty good result. The option if fine if you hinges / rivets are not flogged out to bad. If they are then option two would be the only solution.
Option 2 (ideas stage)
Basically remove all the rivits and machine new ones, using the old ones as a guide. Weld up and redrill the worn holes in the hinges. Reassemble, heat up rivits and using a cold chisel (looks like factory, you could regrind a cold chisel to get the angles correct as per factory) spread the rivits. I think a spacer would have to be used between each hinge arm to prevent lockup of the hinge, remove spacer once complete. Some experimentation may be needed for the spacer, maybe a few thou.....
If I had a lathe I cant see any real issues with creating a new set of rivits, there 14 required for both sets.
i have been tripping over a set for six months now contemplating on repairing, just need to get someone to machine the rivits....

I like the rear sitting up for some reason. Looks a bit drag racey to me!
