Stumbled accross this on another forum

http://aeromotiveinc...om-fuel-system/

Has anyone used this setup on their LX?

Would save me many dramas trying to place a surge (literally cant find anywhere to fit one)

I have an aeroflow one very similar to put in a custom tank and even if I trimmed it back to min length, there is no way the Torana tank is deep enough to fit it in.

I have fitted one to my LX with a std tank. Fits no worries. Works great!

Have a look at the last two pages of my build thread in 'Members Projects and Plans'; thread name 'Hatch Project'

Not sure how to post a link using my phone sorry.

derrin71, damn.... cant believe how dented your tank is, suppose i am lucky with my unmolested one owner car though haha

This setup seems like a massive win so its on its way from summit ($618 delivered for those that want to know)

The Aeromotive setup is a poor substitute for a surge tank. It is better than nothing but it will not guarantee fuel supply.

The only way to guarantee fuel supply with a factory tank or drop tank is to run a lift pump with a surge tank or fit a sump to the fuel tank.

LS1 Taxi's isn't running anything at all, so this has got to give some sort of safe feeling

I can run mine down to a really low tank level and I have NEVER had a fuel supply issue with it. 3000km so far.

I expect it would be ok cruising around the streets on 1/4 of a tank. With the pump mounted at the front of a Torana tank you wouldn't want to try a 1/4 mile pass with less than 2/3 of a tank.

The Torana tank is roughly 160 mm deep. At 1/4 of a tank you would expect the fuel to be around 40 mm deep. The pot on the Aeromotive pump is roughly 80 mm in diameter. That means best case scenario the pot will be holding V = πr2h which gives around 0.2 L of fuel. When you accelerate and fuel surges away from the pot the only fuel you have is what is in the pot.

An naturally aspirated engine producing 400 hp with as BSFP of 0.5 will consume around 2.145 L per minute. 0.2 L of fuel will be good for around 5.6 seconds.

If you are going to fit the Aeromotive setup then it would be best to fit it towards the rear of the tank.

I have a swirl pot of about 2 litres built into my 90 litre tank, and when reversing down my steep driveway I can run out of petrol if I have less than 20 litres in the tank. Need a seperate surge tank to fix the problem.

I get fuel surge if I let the tank run down to any less than a quarter on the gauge otherwise it is fine. At the drags I made sure I had at least half a tank and had no problems.  I have a surge tank set up but haven't gotten around to fitting it yet.  Will do eventually.

Idealy i'd have liked a surge to but they are a no no in the boot, there is no where under the car for one to go and drop tanks are ugly as sin so this will have to do :)

There is no reason why you can't fit a lift pump and a surge tank inside the factory tank. You could use a VL fuel pump mounted in the fuel tank as a lift pump and then mount the Aeromitive pump inside a container that is bolted into the factory tank and filled by the VL pump.

The VL lift pump can be setup something like this. The VL lift pump will not need a swirl pot.

You then cut a hole in the tank and mount a pot with an open top. The mount the Aeromotive pump in the pot and fit top the tank. The feed from the VL pump can be teed into the return line of the Aeromotive pump or connect to the pot.

Something like this but with the Aeromotive pump inside the pot. Picture from this thread.
