I am in need of some info on Mitsubishi sigma engine and gearbox's fitting into a HB.

the only info i have found are a couple of people saying they bolt up pretty easy and someone else saying they have a sigma

rear end in there hb.

if anyone else has suggestions on any good engine conversions i would love to hear them, Want to keep it a 4cyl carb something between 1.6 - 2.0 litre. i also hear Gemini engines are a good fit but i dont really like the fact the gear stick comes

half was up the firewall. I realise the topic comes up pretty often but i really carnt find and decent infomation

....i guess there is a reason why :\

Thanks.

Remember, different is good. :D

How about a BMW 4 cylinder Diesel with twin power turbo.

That would be different. LOL

Heres my last project before the Torana.....this is a Sigma Astron 2.0L with factory suck through T03 Garrett Turbo and CD 175 carby....... mitsubishi only produced 500 of these.

Maaaate it went like the clappers........a heap of fun.

This would would go very well in your HB......its a lot lighter than a sigma.

I do like different but i would lack the skills of sitting that into a hb. oh and lack of money could be an issue haha

Rings and bearings.

The balance shaft causes dramas.

A few people bought them in the area I used to live.

By about 80 000 km most of them were blowing smoke.

Worked for a forklift company for a while.

They were in a lot of Mitsubishi Forklifts.

The company stopped buying them after the first 6 months because of reliability problems.

My mum had a 2 litre one. My 253 VB Commodore was better on fuel. The way I drove it anyway.

Don't quite agree....original rings and bearings where cap but modern replacements are as good as anything today.....remove balance shaft it's not needed on the 2ltr astron only good for the 2.6 cause it's over square. Was pulling 215kw in turbo form and was totally reliable.....blowing 16 psi . ..went like the clappers and never failed, overheated or leaked oil....would lose traction in 3rd gear on boost...it was a weapon

Fit a 2.6L 4ZE1 isuzu and 5 speed from a 89-98 tf rodeo. The shifter on the rodeo box is a remote type that puts the stick further back than a gemini box. The engine mounts are in the same spot as a gemini, gemini brackets would probably be better for you.

Ps there are carburetor versions of this motor in earlier rodeos and Holden shuttle. 4ZC1 & 4ZD1 2.0 and 2.3L. I have the 2.3L version in my gemini making 422rwhp with a built motor & billet wheel turbo etc.

18RG with Celica or Supra box and Hilux G142 diff ?

Whichever way you go the G142 diff from a RN25 would probably be a good move. Track is around 1280mm. Not sure what the HB is but playing with wheel offset might save cutting it down. Change the centre for a fine spline LSD or Lokka and shorten some later model axles.

The old Datsun L20 motors have a good reputation too if you just want NA.

thanks mate, thats the kind of info im after. is it fair to say what ever bolts straight into geminis will bolt into a hb? taking into account that engine bay is

smaller and i guess transmission tunnel would be to.

would love a 18gr n a celica 5 speed but they seem to be hard to get these days and the prices arnt the best lol. From specs given from google the track on

a HB is 1290mm. thanks for that.

Needs more 202... :spoton:

Astron engines aren't bad, I'd use a 2.6 and the Japanese Borg Warner 5 speed. Delete the balance shafts, use Magna EFI for cheap power upgrade. Can't see how there would be any problems fitting it with some mounts figured out.

Hot Starfire would be cooler.

RN 30 diffs are easier to find and usually cheaper, plus fine spline, but 1320mm from memory. Not sure what offset that is but somewhere around pos 30 at a guess, so wouldn't be hard to sort out.

Also, Redline have twin Weber manifolds for 18R motors (single cam). They are plentiful and have a few different sump designs.

Had a few sigma turbos and they where a reliable and fun car that use to shock v8 owners back in the 90's.

Those were the limited editions of 500 made that came out in blue/black, red, black and silver/black.
