Hi Guys,

does anyone know the measurements for setting headlights?

I'm after distance from wall and what heights etc.

Ideally I can only get about 1.5 mtrs from wall on level ground.

I have searched, but come up with zilch

Cheers

Marty

Hello Marty,

I remember the 600mm wall height measurement that the Transport Inspector said, but was 30 years ago.

Also, the CS10 WRX I had, where I checked the low beam headlights shining on a wall 4 metres away,

showed the drivers side light beam was 50mm lower than the other, possibly for the oncoming traffic vision.

Hi Guys,

does anyone know the measurements for setting headlights?

Cheers

Marty

So all this appears to say the headlight light will be below the bonnet height and just to the left in Australia's case.

I just use a wall, measure up to the centre of the headlight, run a line of black tape at that height on the wall, set the car back about 5 meters and aim them by eye, take it for s drive and you will soon see if their right or not,its not rocket science

Drive it up to a wall.

Looking from the side, mark the wall across at the center of the height of the headlamp.

Then, looking from the top, mark the wall up and down at the center of the width of the headlamp.

You should now have a cross on your wall.

Do the same for the other side headlamp.

Back up in a straight line as far as possible (a car length will do though)

On HIGH beam, the middle of your beam should hit the crosses.

On low beam, the middle of your beam should dip to the left.

Hutch has summed it up.................I'm too slow DAMMIT!

I remember hassling one of my mates years ago because he must've been looking for possums in the trees they were aimed so high, the fact that he had an auto ford didn't help him either.

I know this doesn't help you Marty but it's good to laugh at things.

That is for America of course, just reverse the hot spots for our side of the road in regards to the beam spots.

Cover the  light not being adjusted when making adjustments,or just pull the plug on the light not being adjusted.

Don't know if this will help, it's out of Max Ellery's Repair Manual.

Was too slow to add this one and change from PDF file to JPG so you can see it without downloading it.
