Many would regard the Holden Hurricane as the most exciting car made in Australia.
May I add, the best engine ever made in Australia.

Pfft ^
We all know the GTR-X had a far superior engine.

We don't get hurricanes here in Vic. but it's pissing down at the moment. Thunder, lightning, the whole bit.

Quite telling really - Holden's own headline is: The most exciting car ever made in Australia
It was made in 1969 - 45 years ago - in almost half a decade their high-water mark remains buried in paisley shirts, Russell Morris' 'the real thing' and John Gorton in the Lodge... really?
Also a very big (read dubious and most likely embellished) call to suggest, as they have, that the Hurricane directly influenced the Italian styling houses; Styling-wise the low wedge shape would be copied in 1970 in the Bertone Stratos Concept and the Ferrari 512S Berlinetta Speciale, and then in the 1972 Maserati Boomerang.
Cheers, TB

Not such a bad concept, might not be everyones liking, but back then with servo adjustable foot controls by 6 inches to suit driver was not a bad effort, air con, steering column tilts up with canopy and telescopes to suit driver,...canopy,seats,steering column raised by electric servos to give step in access, full IRS,11.75inch rear vented discs with integral drums for park brake, shielded instruments to prevent
glare and reflections, front bumper made from Hypalon microcellular urethane, drag strut with anti dive designed in,...brake,park/turn lights have "dual intensity" (day/bright,...night non dazzle),foam lined fuel tank.
Probably a list of other stuff as well.
All that and only 258bhp from a 253 in something that small...pathetic....what were they thinking
forget the redline cheers

What i meant was, this thing for a GMH car was not a bad bit of gear for it's time!
It even had a system called "pathfinder" (known as "navman" these days) that worked on magnetic signals picked up
from road sensors then compared to a coded tape containing directions for optimum route to any desired destination!
It looks like that there was not much too it,so it would have been reasonably light coupled with a 253 making 1hp/cubic inch
it probably would have went quite well!..i would have one.

All the gizmos this had in '69 were 'state of the art'. Common in regular cars these days. I remember when a turbocharger was 'exotic' gear. Now every dopey 17 year old has one! Times they are a changin'!

they should of put the 308 in it

The Hurricane was 1969 and the 308 was 1969 so they had a 308 at the same time.

The oil cooled brakes on the Hurricane were going to be used on the HG GTS350 Bathurst car with the LT1 engine and Muncie. Harry wanted that car bad but GMH's bean counters and others forced him into the LC. Shame they never built it, imagine a 360hp solid cammed 350 with Muncie and 12-bolt as an off the shelf street car - you basically have Norm Beechey's HT as a road car.
