Hi guys
Just trying to sort out some rust on a hatch pillar.
I need some advice on how the pillar is "Factory joined"
These look to be the joins, are they just a basic over lap join, over lapping by 20mm or so? Then lead wiped???? I have marked out the joins in yellow the best I can as its a "bit" rusty :)
Thanks just nee confirmation of this as I want to get it right.

The top roof joint has a small overlap of about 5mm on the outer part and is lead wiped. The bottom of the C pillar is totally different, yours looks to have been repaired so there is no seam. Do some searching on here there are quite a few pictures of original. Basically there is about a 3mm step down at the seam and the outer skin of the C pillar has a slight lip of a few mm o n it that sits on the step, it is not welded or lead wiped at this join, from what I can tell it was probably just sealed up with some seam sealer.
I've got some pictures of this area as I've repaired the inner skin back to original but haven't put the outer C pillar skin on yet. I'll put them up later.

Here are some. Just to clarify what I said above the outer join is not welded or lead filled but the inner join where the rubber sits is butt welded and finished flush

Yes that's pretty much it. To be as from the factory the folded bit where the rubber goes has a step equal to the thickness of the metal so about 1mm at the seam and is butt welded and when finished its smooth and there is no seam. The outside skin at the seam is not welded and the step is about 3mm and the edge of the outer skin has a slight fold down at the end where it meets the seam, the fold is about 2mm so plus the 1mm for the steel makes it all flush. Hope that makes sense.

The outer skin is but not the folded angle bit that's on the inside, but that is fairly easy to make as it's just basic folds with a very slight curve along the length. But the rares outer skin is not that good, my main criticism is the edge that follows the hatch opening, ie the edge that sits next to the edge of the hatch. The original is a nice sharp folded edge, the rares one is sort of blunt and rounded. Depending how picky you are it may not matter but side by side the difference is very noticeable
