Has anyone used these mounts for their 202/186 in their little Torana?

I'd be interested in your thoughts.

How is extractor clearance?

How are the engine harmonics effected? Is the almost solid mount too harsh for the sixes?

Thanks

Steve

Thanks for showing us these race mounts Steve,

Never seen them before, but you could change the bush to a different polyurethane softness/hardness,

and the engine vibrations will be more noticeable with a harder bush type.

Bit expensive, so make our own is the go :)

As for extractor clearance, they appear to be inside the standard mount space.

Get the street series or whatever they're called just not powdercoated or welds ground to look pretty roughly $260 I think.

Might be able to get them softer bush already...would certainly leave factory rubber mount for g/box/auto so whole car not vibrate.

Chubby @ LoweFabrications is also distributor, hit him up for price & pickup yourself if cheaper...he is short drive from Eastern Creek

As an aside unless you've broken a few engine mounts cant see the point in the mounts other than cosmetics.

Rather spend coin on alternator brakets that dont crack/break for high revin' 202

I'm sort of thinking like gtrboyy, what is the reason you're thinking of running these, are you splitting the originals ? Or is this an aesthetic decision ? When Jim was racing his 383 monaro we actually just fabed up a gm copy for the passenger side mount that kept breaking & kept the original on the drivers side to keep it a bit smoother. If it's just oh look at my engine mounts thing, then yeah just put in the tuff mounts like everyone else! Gary.

In 6 years with wild 202 before car confiscation law wrecked atleast 1 clutch,3 'recoed' m20 gearboxes,2 rear universals,5 or 6  bango's....could keep it from buzzing flywheels loose BUT cracked alternator brackets everytime checked so stopped looking & those damn rare spares clutch rod cables kept popping ball off ends.

Never tore an engine mount despite the 'only driven to church on sundays' driving...

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm just considering engine mount options. Not fussed what they look like, the car is for the track not a show car. Some of the Nc Torana's are using solid mounts, but I don't think I want to go that way. Probably just stick with a new set of rubber mounts and change them regularly.

Factory ones are good, usually only tear from old age + oil leak/oil contamination also they have the locking tabs if it does tear.

Prefer the smoothness with rubber mounts than all the needless shaking & rattling with nolathane crap.

Few ol' skool tricks can do apparently common was bolt & nut through middle..old days v8 dudes used a chain or adjustable rod lol

I use a solid mount on the left side(front carb would touch the bonnet) & std type on the right.

Would these tend to make the car shake more
Instead of motor and find where bog is??

Glad you asked Steve - I need to get some new ones too.

When I took the engine out, the left side mount was broken.... not sure if it broke in the rollover, if if it was broken before that....

I was wondering whether I should have something heavier duty or not, but looks like the std rubber mounrs are the go...

I used to tear the LHS engine mount apart on a weekly basis with my 202 LC. It used to drive me crazy.

I ended up modding a rubber mount with 2 bolts through it which lasted me years.

These mounts look like a great solution - I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

I am surprised more people don't have the same prob with the standard mounts.

Wow, a busted mount each week?! I cant understand that. I've never busted a mount even with hot 202's. Was your 202 stock, warm or stinking?

If there's no real traction then there's not going to be that full on shock load on the mount.
So if your wheel spinning you're more likely to do a diff or trans etc.
But when you have it setup to grip like an alco to a bottle of jimmy then a std mount wont last very long at all. A few hard launches and bye bye engine mounts (if real unlucky its also bye bye radiator and bonnet too....)

It's more likely to be the driver rather than the tyres.

I like your style of driving Maz,

I've only had the motor sideways once,

possibly cause one mount was already broke. :)
