if its the neutral safety switch, then i have to do the same thing as you.
the wire that goes to your starter motor solenoid from your ignition switch - cut it and run it through you neutral safety switch - then the car will only crank when you have your selector in park or neutral.

I had my 2 LX's side by side, 1 had the wires right in front of me, the other doesn't. I have traced the wiring from tip to toe and there is no wires, I know there 2 thick purple wires, but my car doesnt have any, wiring has never been touched, there just not there.even manuals should have the wires, look for 2 purple wires going to a plug with a jumper.
Strange.

There is no wiring plug in the loom of a manual LH/LX that allows the auto inhibitor switch to plug into. There is for the reverse switch, but not for the inhibitor.
There are 3 ways to overcome the problem.
1. Make a new small loom (2 wires) that will reach the ignition switch. Drop the steering column remove the purple (violet) wire from the switch plug connector block. Join this purple wire to your new loom & put the other wire from your loom back into that connector position.
2. If you don't want to drop the steering column, run your 2-wire loom to the starter solenoid & do similar there. That is, unplug the purple solenoid wire & connector 1 wire of your loom to the solenoid pin & then simply connect the other wire of your loom to the old purple wire.
3. If you're more experienced, then splice into the dash harness into the most convenient spot, & fit a plug that will take the factory inhibitor harness.

Cheers Dr. I have the dash out, the column out, I just want the neatest cleanest setup.Hi Guys.

Normally the inhibitor wires are together with the reverse backup switch wires on the loom. Just above the column.

You should have 2 green wires, the reverse backup switch wires, drop the column (3 bolts) the wiring loom that runs over the column, follow the 3 green wires into it, the 2 purple wires normally poke out of the loom where the green wires poke out, if there there you have it, if not you dont. With the original manuals that had the plug, where was it situated in the car? maybe i just havent noticed it.
R Ant.
If you just want to look for them then you dont need to drop the column, just squint the eyes.
