I have McDonald Bros upper adjustable LH/LX  tubular wishbone.

 

They are supplied with a Wasp WBJ118 ball joint, I believe they are suited to fit TC TD - TG TX Gemini lower wishbone.

 

I was hoping to get Moog upper ball joints to match my lower factory wishbones, that's if Moog  make a ball joint  to suit Gemini lower wishbones.

 

However, all the ball joints that I can find for Gemini lower have the Nylox nuts and not the Castle Nuts & pins.

 

 

Any advise or help is very much appreciated.

I did look in to that a little, there is a euro version of the gemini, was difficult to find the info.
A person that knows gemmi’s much better may be helpful.

As for nylocs, i have used locktite on them aswell as drilled for safety lockwire to make double sure no chance of coming off

I had a feeling you would know some part numbers & info dattoman.

 

I will look them up and hopefully end up with the correct ball joint this time.

The MOOG K6273 is the wrong ball joint, I made the same mistake.

 

There are at least two different types of ball joints, the correct MOOG ball joint is OPBJ3166. I think the OBBJ3166 has a nylock nut. I will check later.

 

The shoulder diameter on the OPBJ3166 is slightly larger than the shoulder on the WASP so they do not fit in the recess machined in the McDonald Bros arms. I put mine in a lathe and took about 1mm from the shoulder.

 

McDonald Bros have added the bump stop to the arms so they make have increased the recess diameter if you are lucky.

I don't know why Ray is making tubular arms with limited options when it comes to ball joints.

 

Don't really want to start machining ball joints to fit.

 

I was hopeful of finding a quality replacement Wasp WBJ118 part if possible.

The MOOG OPBJ3166 has a nylock.

 

Normally the diameter of the shoulder is not an issue as the ball joint is typically pressed into a flat hole.

 

It would have been better if McDonald Bros used a screw in ball joint. There have been reports of the ball joint getting pushed out of its seat on cars used at the strip.

BJ118 should be available in a Selby or something not too nasty ... just need to finds some castle 12 x 1.25 nuts

You need to measure the diameter of the shoulder recess in the McDonald Bros arms and check the shoulder diameter of any replacement ball joint.

 

As the shoulder diameter is not normally a critical measurement you will need to measure a sample ball joint.

You mentioned that the Moog K6273 was wrong. 

Can you give anymore info? could it be machined to fit or was it totally unsuitable?

Whilst I was checking the information I re-read my notes. According to my notes it was the shoulder on the lower balljoint K5103 that required modification to fit the recess in the McDonald Bros lower arm. The upper MOOG OPBJ3166 ball joint fitted the McDonald Bros upper arm without modification.

 

 

I bought the MOOG-K6273 from Summit Racing in 2011. When it arrived it was totally different to the Wasp ball joint, from memory it was a bolt in ball joint. I returned the K6273 to Summit.

I then did some more checking of part numbers and found that the Quinton Hazell Part # QSJ883S crossed to the MOOGOPBJ3166 so I bought the MOOGOPBJ3166 from Rock Auto. I cannot find MOOGOPBJ3166 on Rock Auto anymore.

Just a update.

 

dattoman, was correct with that part No Moog K6273 is the same as the Wasp BJ118.

However, the Moog K6273 hasn't got the Castle Nuts and Split pins as advertized,  Nyloc nuts only.

 

Still a better product that the Wasp I suppose.

I came across another Moog BJ same part number K6273. 

However, these have Castle Nuts & split pins

 

Maybe old stock, will suit Pontiac 1984-1987
