Hi,
Have been away from this thing and anything like it for +20 years so looking to refresh my mind to identify/confirm/understand where I'm at.
The car was parked just over 20 years.
I built most of it a couple years before that and is running:
186 block
465 holley
extractors
30/70 cam
very ported 202 head(inlet bolt removed and replaced with allen screws from bottom)
valves unknown but have a piece of paper from the time that says 'large valves'
extractors and larger exhasust
electronic ignition
4 speed manual with rat trap clutch mechanism.
Over the past year I have been making it go by way fixing whatever is broken.
Mainly:
Holley rebuild kit and tune. with no previous experience but it goes which is part reason for the check here.
replaced side plate leaking gasket.
manifold gasket
replace oil and water and a lot of flushing.
fit brake booster, rocker cover to manifold hoses which were all blocked off before.
new BFG 205/13
Has been done by shop who i'm going to take it back to for registration, they are going to do the check and also advise/fix what needs to be done to pass the roadworthy check:
new wheel bearings.
Repack wheel bearings.
new rear cylinders, drums, wheels.
new lower ball joint
new master cylinder.
Situation now is:
it idles - roughly once it's warmed up after about +5-10 mins.
have had it idling woud total a fair few hours over the days and months. retuning carby from time to time when gaskets, hoses fitted. no leaking water, oil.
is driveable. been around the block a few times so far.
steering is 'ok' but not an easy look, point and shoot activity....got a feeling that's expected?
low rpm it coughs/splutters/gasps. is that expected? I can't remember. no tacho so can't say how low it is. idle is low enough to not stall.
It doesn't seem to overheat- I have an electric fan on the front which I switch on when it gets up there reads +80 on my super cheap digital ebay gauge and the overflow starts going on floor after idling for +10ish mins and this does the trick.
all dash controls are working.
Plan is to now drive it to the registration inspection 100km away.
Think what could I have missed doing that will go wrong and end up me needing a tow? even have blown a main beam headlight along the way just with the light testing! fully understanding and expecting a lot that has and will go wrong just because old.
Is Driving, expected or is wrong, needs tuning?
same with steering?
Anything else can check or do?
thanks.
