We've been through all this before, we lost our electronics, whitegoods, etc. Some great brands went the same way: AWA, Rank Arena, PYE, Email, etc. and GM-H even built fridges once upon a time.

We are all watching our country die.
As for General Motors?

Holden was doomed once the subsidies stopped
For decades the global car giants, led by the Detroit powerhouses, all had a similar modus operandi. Roll into town, ask for government assistance to establish a manufacturing plant and promise thousands of jobs and vast tax revenues.
But the subsidies never ended and the tax revenues never arrived. Every couple of years, they would ask for even more cash. And it wasn't just Australia either. This was a global business model.

Mr Morrison said the carmaker's exit proved the company was “never going to respect” the subsidies it received. He said the departure showed the ineffectiveness of government propping up industry.
The Labor Party and the union movement hit back at the government, saying the policies of the Abbott government led to Holden’s demise. The Coalition government stripped $500 million worth of support for the car industry between 2013 and 2014.
Labor’s industry spokesman, Kim Carr, said the decision was “a direct result of the hostility and abuse by the Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison governments towards General Motors Holden, including [then-treasurer] Joe Hockey standing in the Parliament goading Holden to leave [in 2013].”
ACTU secretary Sally McManus said supporting the manufacturing sector was crucial to maintaining a strong economy, "but the Coalition is so committed to globalisation and the free market, they will not lift a finger."

Oh by the way, the Aust Got has just let our northern neighbours agree to purchase Dairy Farmers milk brand.
This was on top of a recent sale of that popular Aussie baby formula milk brand.
Those mongrels in Canberra would sell their own grandmothers for their own selfish benefits.
Grrrrrrrr

Lloyds auctions ad is showing. ' if you own a pre 1984 holden - do not sell your car- repeat do not sell your car, call lloyds auctions.
I've just seen their update ad. They're having an old Holden auction with their big spiel 'cars starting from $1', yeah a real nice way to devalue our cars, Cunning Stunts.

I thought dairy farmers or Lion or what ever it is has been foreign owned for many years.
Up until November 2019 it was a joint venture with Bega and Vitasoy Australia. These two companies are now fully chinese owned, and they also took Berri, Dairy Farmers, Pura, and Daily Juice with them.
52.6 million hectares of Australian farmland is now foreign owned.

The makes and models tipped to become a 'goldmine' for owners
"I also think the owners of the classic Monaros and the hot Toranas will without a doubt continue to see an increase in value."

The mainstream media probably gets its facts off Facebook these days. They seem to get most of their still photographs from there.

One that stands out was the specially built Torana SLR XU1 police evaluation vehicle, which I was trusted with at the tender age of 22.
A special car with "Bathurst" engine mods, racing suspension and close-ratio gearbox but with no external body modifications indicating anything other than a standard Torana SLR.
It was very hard to drive this car below the speed limit. Its minimum speed in reverse was 20 kilometres an hour, making it hard to reverse out of driveways without burning rubber.
And the temptation was there at every traffic light.
I think he means to say the XU-2 which became the 5000 or more specifically the L34?

Maybe? I don’t think they made any though prior to LH restricted production. The XU2 was the L34, it was delayed to be released later and they instead released the SLR5000. Either he means the only SLR5000 (Saffron car) built for Press evaluation (this was assigned to Pagewood) or an evaluation SLR5000 fitted with L34 engine mods but no flares?

A nice touching comment wishing all the current Holden employees the best. They too have families to feed, bills to pay, mortgage or rent....
For them, history is being in the headlines for the wrong or at least sad reason.
Hope those in Government also think of their well being.

Media really needs to proofread by someone with knowledge before they print/air stuff. ABC had some BS about HQ Kingswood and 550,000 made. Lucky to be 1/4 of that.
I believe that is actually about 520,000 made and the most made of any GMH vehicles of one model
Speaking of models, I will be posting my collection of 1:18 & 1:43 models soon as I am clearing the shed out AND that will also include my Scalextric cars, tracks and accessories AND oh yes, my SS is NOT for sale

Over 500000 HQ, but not HQ Kingswood. There were also Holden (cab-chassis), Belmont, Premier, Monaro, GTS, LS, SS, Statesman and Statesman Deville. Plus the export versions.

It could be this one Byron. I have no details other than it was an evaluation vehicle for the NSW police. Have you got that number plate on file?

Will check. It doesn’t fit the story exactly though as it doesn’t look like a standard SLR, but his memory may be hazy.

I think the youngsters and media use Kingswood as a term to differentiate from Holden Commodore, so they mean 550000 HQs. Iggorent pricks.Over 500000 HQ, but not HQ Kingswood. They do, hence my comment they (the media) need to have someone knowledgeable proof read for them. They also commonly incorrectly state that Commodore replaced Kingswood. Commodore was released mid 1978. Kingswoods were still sold new into 1985 as a utility and well into 1980 as passenger vehicles.
