Hi fellas,

 

I have ordered some of the Ebay Seat Covers for my car (the good quality ones from AllTrim)

 

As I have a lot of spare time at the moment I was going to have a crack at installing them myself when they arrive.

 

The foam in my seats is still fine so it should just be a matter of removing the old covers, sliding on the new ones and stitching them on.

 

Just wondering if there is a particular type of thread that the trimmers use?

 

Also have anyone else done the install themselves?

Hi Matt

I have similar pre made covers for my LC. so far I have replaced the rear covers only and these were just held on with wire threaded through calico at the edge of the vinyl and c shaped wire clips.

I just removed the existing clips and the original vinyl and replaced . The rear seat back and base turned out really well and I’ll have a look at the buckets soon.

I didn’t need anything but the C clips on the rears

Hi Matt,

I'm in the process of getting my seat covers fitted and it's not something I would attempt myself. Unlike you, my foam is getting replaced which costs a heap more. You need to run the wires in the sleeves to pull down the cover on its stitch lines. I also think you need a tool for clipping those wire c clips.

You've spent a lot of money on the covers so spend a bit more and get a professional finish. Nothing worse than dodgy seats.

I don't think any stitching is required for the rear seats but fronts will need pipeing stitched on the rear card piece.

 

Good luck which ever way you go.

S style upper frame But covers done in XU1 stitch pattern , I’ll take some pictures tomorrow

If your squab and backrest foams are still S style the whole lot will need to be replaced to suit the 82911 seat covers.

Hi all,

 

Photos of the first set LC seats I covered taken before final tighten up and adjustment. Clips are not fully compressed in these photos.

 

Not the greatest pictures but shows the wire used , foam and calico supplied with the covers. 

 

I had to advise the trimmer who made them that rear upper seat was S not XU1 and they made the cover accordingly.

 

I attached the new C clips  with $15.00 Bunnings tool used for bird wire C clips through the wire / calico to the seat frame.

 

Took a lot of care so as not to rip the covers on installation and sat them in the sun for an hour before starting.

 

Fronts as Marty says need piping and back boards in LC at least as LC S fronts are all one cover on the back rest, XU1 type are not,

Thanks for the replies.

 

I think I'll stop being such a tight arse and get them fitted by a trimmer.

 

I spoke to one today and he said it would be around $1000 so it's not bad anyway

 

Below are the seats now with the material covers taken off.
