Hi Hanra photos of my scuff plates they don't look like your zinc plated ones, and I am pretty confident these are original finishes.

Agree, someone has shot them with some silver paint. You can see the original zinc finish where the paint has peeled off.

I would just strip and paint with urethane over epoxy 2k. There is a one part silver metallic I used a litre of it various details on my car, including fuel tank. Not authentic but affordable durable diy and safe, long as you use carbon filter mask.

But then I’m a tight arse and never had anything plated or chromed.

So the original zinc finish was a dull or shiny finish.

Shiny when new but dulls with age and exposure to the elements.

I was just looking at mine (hatch) and they seem to be chrome.  Does that seem right. Not that I care but am curious. Cheers Ron

Pretty sure my LX SL hatchback ones were zinc, they were hanging around in the shed for years until I used them for donor steel. I found good chrome ones for it somewhere, off a UC SL/E maybe?
