can any one tell me what a good time around mallala is my mates dad held the lap record at one stage of 1.28 in an ex brian sampson aluminium bodied triumph spitfre and after not racing for 25 years goes out in the same car and pulls 1.30 what are most people pullimg around that track?

yeah cheers pat i saw those sites, even by those standards he was pretty sharp, but im more shocked that after not racing for 25 years he has lost only 2 seconds, i dont know what class he was in, i know he has raced against drivers like john bowe, the old school drivers. he always wanted to get back into racing but due to work commitments he never got the time, he only got motivated by some triumph gathering, something connected to the classic adelaide. still hes times are pretty good for a tiny little motor, 1185cc i think he said it was, with a pair of side draught webbers

I think the quickest I've been around it in a road going car is just under 1:30. Then again, I aint no race driver, and I would have had a $#itload more power than he did. It did get a lot quicker when it was resurfaced for the then "Touring Car rounds" (now V8 Supercars), which was probably in the late 80s.

I had an idea that early Group C era times (Toranas, Falcons etc around the late 70s) were around the 1:23s, but I could be wrong about that.

It's those few seconds that lose or win the race, and cost the most dollars to pick up. Would also depend on the spec of the car. On road tyres doing pretty good, o(not sure of Mallala), but at Wakefield proper race rubber is good for 5 seconds off your times, min.

Times are just something to keep working on.

Older dudes also tell me racing is like riding a bike. Once you learn you never forget.

I've raced at Mallala in the past, in the Porsche 944 series, Marque Sports category and the best I could do was a 1:29. It was my second race meet, so I was totally rapt!! Lyndon Punchon in his V8 Robnell was doing 1:11's... He's a madman, but great driver too... lol..
