G'day all,

Can ya's help me out here. Been reading about the metoric rise in prices in toranas of all models.

6 Months ago I could have bought a Lone Oranger 72 XU-1 complete with JP motor, original head on the motor.....but no tags ........for 17K.

He was an older bloke and told me that the car had always been local and that the previous owner crashed it into a pole and ruined the tags. The car was in great nic but I let it go because of the fact it had no tags.

I spoke to a wrecker....while the car was still for sale, and to my knowledge it still is, and was telling him about the car. (The wrecker is an ex race driver and knows just about every car in Tassie). I told him the story about the car and that it didn't have any tags because of a crash, without telling him details. he asked me the colour and when I told him he said he knew about an Orange XU-1 that was crashed by a panel beater into a pole( at a place that the owner mentioned as well) and when he fixed the car up and sold it he actually kept the tags. he confirmed that it was definately genuine.

Even though it didn't have the tags, does anyone think I should have bought it?

17k would be about all l would pay for it so l dont think you missed out. How could you hit a pole and bugger all the tags, that is BS.

Yeah I know. That's what he was told when he bought it. The wrecker told me the real story. The previous owner kept them.

I'm pretty glad myself that i didn't take it. It's a sweet little car though.

For 17k I wouldn't buy a car thats been crashed into a pole and then repaired. You don't really know the full extent of the damage that had to be fixed.

If they hit $200K, you might be giving a different answer.

Here here! I hear people bagging people out about tinkering with an original. Each to their own.

I'm on the same side as LX406 and 1QuickLJ... BUT.. i do respect the guys who do go for the authenticity and that means tags!

if your buying the car ( or intended to ) to either restore concourse, or keep original FOR VALUE purposes.. then you didnt miss out i think. If you wanted to buy a "genuine" car cause it was one.. then i think the price was a bit high.
ive head of one going up here sydney way for around the 12K mark!

Thats my 2c worth!
