I always had the impression the L34 Heads gave it a decent advantage over all the other 308s even in stock form, I was obviously wrong.

If you are talking HORSEPOWER, then the L34 weighed in with 340 (ish) where the SLR 5000 had 240.Does the L34 HO count as standard other wise the standard L34 would have more power than a standard SL/R 5000 despite what the factory said.
Litre8's figures are interesting and it makes you wonder why the L34 figures were "understated".
My guess would be because of the SuperCar scare and GMH's intention to "tip toe" the L34 into the 1974 ManChamp series.
Any other theories?

Seems the LJ XU1 has the most HP... 190hp... but low torque.
Its hard to say which goes the best, maybe by 400m times?

Look again, the SS is a 76 verion, ie pre pollution, there is no comparison. As I said before, if you got a stock 77 (pollution) SS and an A9X and tested them, you would find the A9X would be ever so slightly better off.LH SL/R5000, LX SS & A9X are measured in k/w instead of h/p on the chart. So LX SS 5litre is the most powerful. Thanks for posting that up mike_nofx.

and did the A9X gain its extra performance from its lack of engine driven fan? what else?

AS I have said, yes the SS on the chart makes more power, but it's a 76 model, stricker ADR rules came into play after that, choking the later models including the SS. To compare a 5l SS against an A9X, you need to have a late 77 build (around August as after that they were all A9X) SS.

the l34 had 340HP standard and with the HO pack it produced 370HP, and 0-100km and 1/4 mile times are bullshit too.
if you put heads with l34 sized valves on a 308 its gonna make a bit more than 240HP, rochester quadrajets flow 750cfm and the l34 had headers, combination for over 300HP.
sucks that they couldnt use that engine in the a9x's so they were stuck with 240HP, so the L34 was the last true supercar.
just my two cents.

If the L34 had 100 more HP than the SLR 5000, then it would be impossible for the 5000 to beat it in 0-100km + 1/4 mile times.
