Just when I thought I was making some progress. aagh!. Passenger side closes (needs some force) with just the scuff plate and no pinchweld or carpet. Drivers side will not close with just the scuff plate. The issue doesn't seem to be height it's just that where the scuff plate rises up to clear the panel seam at the front is being pushed out by the pinchweld etc but is just too proud on drivers side. I might have to consider finishing the pinchweld at the plate and not tuck it or the carpet under. Not sure about the drivers side but suspect will need tap tap tap. On the backburner for now as tap tap tap might become something more violent. Cheers Ron

Well I have made some adjustments which I think have fixed the problem. Cut the pinchweld short of the scuff plate, trimmed the carpet so it doesn't sit over the panel seam, tapped the seam in a bit, and moved the scuff plate screw holes inboard and re-fitted with nutserts. I will run some seam sealer between the end of the pinchweld and the scuff plate so you really don't see it and if needed glue down bits of the carpet if they sit loose. I think one issue is the thickness of the new trim particularly the double up where the carpet pocket runs to the lower corners of the door. Without pushing the scuff plate inboard I don't think that could be resolved in my case. Cheers Ron

They are a cheap car, particularly in this area. The way the carpet and pinchweld trim is supposed to tuck under there perfectly when the pressed sheetmetal doesn't really facilitate it well is a bit... underwhelming. I can't remember exactly what I did on mine but certainly cut a fair bit away before I was happy, and certainly used nutserted button heads rather than the crappy self-tappers.

Can't agree more Heath. One thing that surprised me a bit was that with all the new seals etc, the car must be fairly tight as it is somewhat easier to shut the doors with a window down. I'm now back to tackling the dash/console. Cheers Ron

From my very old memory, the pinchweld where it went under the sill covers was squashed quite a bit.
Perhaps some heat treatment on it in that area might help with getting things to work better.

Cook, does the car still have the one-way vents in the rear luggage area?
I must say, closing my car with the windows closed make my whole hatch lid balloon out a little bit, but it is only made of fibreglass, lol.

Yes Heath, replaced them on both sides.
Hi Rob. In my case I couldn't get anything to fit between the scuff plate and the seam without interfering with the door. Cheers Ron
