253 is the same. Firing order is 12784563 from memory. Have piston #1 on TDC on comp stroke and see where the rotor button is pointing. Place #1 lead there and work your way around.

You will need to remove the rocker cover to tell the difference between TDC compression and TDC exhaust.

Many distributors have a mark on the body that indicates #1 but there is no guarantee the distributor has been installed correctly.

A quick way to find the compression stroke.
Remove #1 spark plug and make a ball of damp tissue or dunny paper....
make sure it is larger than the plug hole, and stuff it in the hole so it is in around 1/2 way.
Now go the ignition and turn the engine over in "very small clicks " of the key untill you hear a pop and find the paper stuck to your bonnet!
Check the balancer marks and you wil be within 15 degrees of TDC on the compression stroke. You might be just past it or just before it so check the marks on the balancer.
Thi is accurate enough to throw the leads on the dizzy...
Now take the dizzy cap off.. the rotor is pointing at #1 plug. Go clockwise 12784563 is the order.
Done...

Cheers Greg..
