It took me over an hour to prepare it, change stale fuel in tank, swap tyres etc.
Cranked it over with the ignition off for 20 seconds until the oil pressure came up. Flicked the ign. on and away she went!
Drove it from my garage next door into Dad's garage.

I had an absolute ball yesterday, it's been 2 and a half years since the car has been to the track, last race was Phillip Island.
It wasn't without issue though. After a 3hr drive up there Mr Scrut was in 2 minds whether to let me race.
Mr Scrut: You don't have a secondary accelerator return spring.
Me: Each carby has a return spring (triple SU's)
Mr Scrut: Yes, but you need a secondary spring...........it's in the regs.
Me: I have 3 springs, if 2 fall off, the remaining spring will still close all the throttles as they are mechanically linked?
Mr Scrut: Hang on, I'll go check with Snr Scrut.
Snr Scrut: Triple SU's! I love a set of triples...................but you have no secondary spring?
Me: (having a fit of de ja vue) I have 3 springs, if 2 fall off, the remaining spring will still close all the throttles as they are mechanically linked? Would you like me to demonstrate?
Snr Scrut: Hmmmmmm..................I see............but next time, fit a secondary spring.
Me:
OK! So now we can go racing!
Get out on the track for the "passenger laps". Supposedly no more than 85% of the car's potential....................
Take it easy for a bit as I've got precious cargo in the passenger seat. After 1/2 a lap or so I give it a bit and cough# splutter* rev% fart# "pop" *sneeze* wheeze splutter splutter.
Me thinking a couple of plugs might be a bit damp after idling in the shed while I was prepping it last week. Carry on! It'll clear itself!.....................No luck, next lap BLACK FLAGGED!!!!!!!!! for being too slow? On The damn passenger laps???
Back to the pits and get dropped into the slow group.
So.....................About 6 - 8 weeks ago
A FORUM MEMBER, (who shall remain nameless, but some folk from NSW might know him) rings me up and says "Hey Hotrod? What needles are you running in your SU's?"
Me, being a top bloke and always keen to help, whips a chamber of one of my SU's, removes the needle, gets out my monocle, reads the number off it and reports back to said member.
Now remember yoose blokes, it's been nearly 3 years since I first assembled these carbies and it's not something one does every day.
So last week, during the prepping, the needle gets assembled back into the piston and the chamber goes back on the carby.
Fine? Sounds good?
Nope! The needle fits into a sleeve, the sleeve fits into the piston and a screw secures everything PROVIDED THAT THE PLANETS HAVE ALIGNED AND ARE ALL POINTING TOWARDS MECCA AT SUNSET! (dammit)
Short story? The needle fell out of the piston leaving no juice getting to #3 & 4 cyls.
But then I had no oil with me to top up the dampner???.......................so the Mc Iver in me came out!
Using a small Heron tablet bottle, I drained a couple of cc's of power steering oil out of the tow car's P/S reservoir.
So.........finally.................on the track and times improving for the rest of the day!
I met Tim (Dustings) and his uncle in the McRae car. Tim was in his HQ and we had a couple of stoushes in the afternoon stints.
Here's a couple of short vids. (Sorry about the pic. quality but the noise is worth it) The Grease Slapper hitting 6000rpm and the Dustings car at full noise. That thing was leaving licorice straps out of that turn!

Nice Rob,
Got the shivers up the spine from your exhaust noise, didn't know what to expect.
Has a lot of down low torque by the looks of it. Dave I

Fastest lap was 1:57...................the Dustings car was doing 1:40's...................just call me Captain Slow?
Thinking about Phillip Island, 18th August.
At the end of the day the gearbox was hurting. Winton is a 2nd and 3rd gear track with a brief moment in top gear on the main straight for this car.
This gearbox cluster gear was just through the hardening when I put it together and is starting to sound a bit agricultural. Phillip Island and Sandown are predominantly 3rd and 4th gear so hopefully there's a bit more in it?
To keep the oil in the sump this time I've had to use sealer on the sump plug thread and 100mph tape. Time for a tap and oversize plug?? So that will have to be done before it goes out again.
Also, it had no oil light and no Ign light when I got it off the trailer. Oil light will just be a loose wire I'm hoping but the Ign light might mean the alternator.
The wheel bearings should probably be looked at too.

Good to see you back out there Rob, can't wait to join you. I brought my racecar home a couple of weeks back after having it sit in a mates shed for 15 months. I had to winch it onto the trailer, stupid battery was flat. I wouldn't have bought that brand battery if I didn't think it would last.
