Your catch can,is that made from a a/c accumulator?I was looking at doing the same thing out of a vn commodore.Did you pull it apart and pull the desicant out of it?

Love the whole approach you have taken with this thing, fun on minimal cost.

Yes it is the one off the old A/C from the car recycled :spoton:

I cut 1 end off just big enough to get the plastic desicant part out.
I cut the oil cap part off an old rocker cover and pop riveted it over the hole after all the fittings were assembled to it and sealed it all with 3 bond.
You can see the rivets in the pic under the oil cap.

Thought of swapping the headlights for pieces of acrylic or similar? If they're gunna be covered in million mph tape anyway, it'll save a heap of weight...

What's so special about the boot?

Thought of it but later. One of the lenses is original Bosch, might be worth something one day. Plastic windows as well but after a roll cage goes in.

That will depend on how many bills I can clear off the fridge before then.
At the moment the fridge has a 20 degree list from perpendicular and we have to be careful when we open the door

Nup, not sure of anything with this build. The fittings are made from similar plastic to L.P.G water fittings which seem to survive O.K. under the bonnet and are at least oil "resistant". The tubing I am pretty sure would collapse with heat, thats why I put the mig wire "spring" in it and ran it on the "cold" side of the engine bay.

Should know Sunday though

question about your catch can volume...

CAMS state it needs to be 3 litres, but is what you have OK for these 'fun' events at winton etc?

Well he passed Scrutineering today with flying colours :)
Although they said the tape had to go if it started raining, and the +ve battery terminal had to be protected with an insulator ( ). So there was no issue there.

If your catch can directs it all straight back into the crank case, does it still have to be >3L? Seems excessively large.

yeah, tell me about it. theres bugger all room left in my bay and i dont even have a battery in there. think i will tuck mine under the guard.

if engine is < 3L then 2 litre can. if engine>3L then 3 litre can.

that must be for competing cars? even just club events. so if you just rock up to a track, i think they scrutineer for 'track worthy' rather than strict rules???

Please if someone understands the mind set of CAMS, feel free to elaborate.

RoDoMo Racing Race Report:
Sunday 3rd June:
Sandown:
Track: Dry
Weather: Mostly sunny.
Attendance: Heath, Olden64 (Tim)

Practice: 10 laps of Sandown every night this week on the simulator.

Qualifying: "Yeah mate, just put some tape on the positive battery terminal and youre in" :spoton:

I have never driven at Sandown before and coming off the back straight, over the crest, at Dandenong Rd I had no idea where the track was as there were witches hats and I wasn't sure of which side to go on. I was a bit like a granny looking for a parking spot at the shops.

1st timed lap of the day was 2.02.34, Next couple of laps were 1.56's and at the end of lap 3 the hydraulic governor kicked in and it wouldnt rev over 4500.

We pulled the rocker cover off between stints and No.3 exhaust wasn't opening or closing (and others looked suss when cranking). Before the next stint it all bled down again and I kept the revs down and learnt the track a bit better. Times in this stint were around 2.00mins flat.

Olden 64 was there and we hatched a plan for stint 3 that the out lap was a sighting lap (low revs) and give it to it on lap 2 (before the lifters pump up) It did a 1.54.78 which included a half loose arrival at turn 2. I was revving it to 5500 (I had settled on this RPM for maximum for the day anyway as the motor is an unknown) but by the end of lap 2 it was starting to miss. Lap 3 was virtually a cruise and was red flagged when another car went off.

There was only one more stint (heaps of cars there) and you had to have working lights to get on the track which I don't have.

The calculated speed on the front straight at 3500 (which is all it would push) in top is 160.21 kph. It should get a bit quicker with the valve train sorted and a 3.45 diff I hope. (And a certain old fart might learn the track better  )

Race tyres would be good and better brake balance.

Technical:
The breather hoses were no drama and brett_32i, you are correct as far as my reading of the regs. but these things aren't heavily policed. On this engine, at the end of the day, there was no visable oil in the breather tubes :spoton:

The timing ended up at 10 degrees with the dissy mod.

Carby mod. worked a treat, no flat spots.

Cheers!

Toddles, as it sits in the pics, its about $1500 worth and 6 months of spare time man hours. Lots still to do but now I can put it on the trailer and have legal fun.

Rim, the boot spoiler was painted but I ran out of time to fit it. The boot lid is marked out for next time. It didn't get a buff either and I was cleaning windows between scrutineering and the drivers meeting.
