Good choice....I've been toying with the idea of painting mine Cotillion white & about three other colours but it'll be good to see your sons car painted & It wouldn't be to far off for the SS to see some colour
Are you giving the hatch a lick of paint.

Az

yeah mate im painting it myself in the good old acrylic i like 2k but i think it looks to much like plastic when shiney on old cars plus i wont kill myself painting in the shed with acrylic lol i know its more work but thats cool :spoton:

got the bonnet straight and in undercoat with some help from my good mate.... blocked down the cowl vent.... then applied another coat of polyester to the door so its straight as now.... then decided to push it out into the sun and have a good look and i must say fkuc its straight   so all the hard work is paying off not much more to go only rear hatch and nosecone before colour time :buttrock: image_zpswfjjkqfi.jpg[/URL]

Great thread, awesome to see another Torana being saved and restored to such a high standard. You're nearly at the fun part now, enjoy the final stages and keep the photos coming.

I looked up polyester filler, Interesting product, Do you you two pack primer over the top of it? I have never seen spray putty used for a top coat before painting before.

Takes time to prep a car but I have to ask what process you go threw prior to paint. Just interested to see how others do it is all.

What do you block your spray putty with?

Btw awesome job your doing by the looks.

cheers mate yeah i had never used polyester putty before this build some people like it some dont but my mates have used it with great results so i thought i would use it on my doors and guard.... i blocked the polyester back with 180 grit paper to get it straight then 240 grit all dry no wet sanding but let me tell you when you block back the polyester the powder smells like piss lol its horrid shit lmao...after blocking back i used acrylic undercoat as car will be done in acrylic....

Awesome man.

I understand why people with old school cars use acrylic.

Not really had much to do with it to be honest.

Big fan of 2k have sprayed a lot of cars with it, Love De Beer paint products alot

180-320-500 dry then I wet rub 800 before paint.

I like to board down epoxy primer do repairs and re epoxy the car to seal up repairs and block it again then I start with 2k block again.

Like to seal up repairs with epoxy to stop sink back. Seems to work for me.

Each to there own I saw a guy who used to own a rod shop do 10 coats of acrylic on a lh slr5000 he restored.  Looks nice but that would drive me nuts sanding coats repainting over and over.

im no expert mate i just have a crack and dabble with paint n panel a bit lol... as i always say whats the worst you can do fkuc it up hahaha... if you apply say 4 coats of acrylic block back lightly with 1200 do another 4 coats then block back lightly with 1200 then 3 coats of colour and clear mixed together then apply 5-6 coats of clear..... let sit for a while as acrylic likes to sit for a bit for the thinners to evaporate say 3 weeks or more then block back with 1200 1500 2000 and if your ultra fussy 3000 you should get a very good job but as you say a lot of work 2k much quicker but i think old school cars look like plastic when done in 2k but thats just me....

this is my hz done in 2k

There will always be a two sides of a discussion I am not saying any one thing is better then another.

I like to learn things every day I like to see people with passion just like this thread.

2k is far easier to use by the looks compared to acrylic as it seems to be much more time consuming,

I know one old school retired gent who said back in the day a respray would take weeks with acrylic and now I understand why, said it took weeks for it to dry properly so you could get it to look good.

My hat is off to you guys that's a lot of effort guys.

Sorry not trying to hi-jack you thread.

I love all enthusiast all cars to be honest, As long as you have passion that is what matters and you should always be proud of your work.

Looking forward to seeing the end product, Wish my son had an interest in cars like you and your father do.

Very impressive

Very nice job on your car mate if I had a booth I may have changed my mind as a lot of painters say there are ways to make 2k look like the old school acrylic....

have done all the prep work in my shed and top coats n clear will be as well....the beauty of painting acrylic is if you get a bit of shit in the paint between coats just grab some 1200 block it out and keep going..

2k in a shed with no booth is a lot harder but I have done it 😄 I'm looking forward to getting some colour on that's for sure 😄 hoping to get the engine bay done very very soon...
