Hi

776 is a current code. Codes often change hands as dealersships change hands or cease trading. There is no listing in my Torana Owners Handbook for any dealer in Tully (up to June '72 at least).

I wrote to GMH a couple of years ago and they replied saying that they don't have any listings for the old dealership codes.

Further to dpz's post - it is not unusual to have duplicated numbers - 871 is another.

After reading the whole post whilst collating the info, I can understand your suspisions.
However it was an honest oversight. I thought I had included it. Must have accidentally deleted off the "to add list"

Speaking to a friend today and he has been in contact with the original dealer principle of Canowindra Motors in NSW.
He said the dealer code of his dealer ship was 497. They sold one A9X, it was a Panama Green /Chamois interior hatchback. The only one in this combination. Hope this info helps someone .

Did all cars for eagers go to eagers newstead and than out to there various dealerships.

I would think that each outlet had a stand-alone Dealer Code. For example, Preston Motors in Victoria had 5 discrete codes (one for each location). More likely is that vehicles moved between outlets outside the purvey of GMH - there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to support this. This happened not only between outlets of the same organisation, but between competitors also.
