Can anyone shed some light on the GMH Dealer Code 622 ?

I cant find anything on it.

Thanks

The only listing I have for 622 is "Fair Deal Holden" in Parramatta NSW but there are no dates against that entry so I can't say for sure when/if they actually were dealer 622.

Going by the stock on the lot I'd guess that photo must date around the early to mid 60's?

Not for long going by the construction fencing around it!

Looks like it's either been condemned or it's about to be "re-developed"?

FAIR DEAL CAR SALES P/L~ (Cnr  Church and Early Streets) ~

Interesting... I also have Hillsdon's listed as corner of Church Street and The Great Western Road, Parramatta (DLR 621) from 1938 "to at least 1983" (famously having their Pontiac Firebird stolen in the movie "Midnite Spares")

Would they have had two distinct Holden dealers only five blocks apart (even if it is "Auto Alley")?

So it looks like Hillsdon's Chevrolet was in the "Holden House" building we're talking about from 1937 till the late 40's, when Stack & Co took over and moved the Hillsdon's dealership down the other end of Church St.

Then a few years later (early 50's), Fair Deal Holden set up shop in "Holden House" and were there until the mid 80's.

I wonder what's in store for the old building now? I'd hate to think what that block of land would be worth (probably more WITHOUT the old building on it).

I thought that Holden House was always Fair Deal Car Sales & Hillsdons was on the next corner (north) @ 87 Church St.

In those days (pre-1968) there were 3 levels of Holden dealership:- Distributor (e.g. Stacks, Boyded & WT Coggins etc.), dealers (Muirs, Suttons etc.) & sub-dealers of which there were many, often small 'one-man' businesses sometimes not much more than a suburban service station

Dr Terry

Distributor :- + John A Gilbert.   (Metropolitan Distributor)
Holden House was   :- or more correctly 65 Church Street, Parramatta, NSW 2150

HILLSDON'S Pty Ltd Chevrolet
15/12/1937 25/01/1947 9 Years, 1 Months, 10 Days
65 Church Street, Parramatta, NSW 2150
(Cnr  Church and Early Streets)

Holden House then:-
After Hillsdon's moved  (21/12/1949)to 87 Church street Parramatta,  65 Church Street was occupied by
a used car dealer from Glebe who expanded into Parramatta.
They used the defunct name of "Holden House" that was in operation
on the Holden premises in Williams Street Sydney.

FAIR DEAL CAR SALES P/L (Parramatta) sold to Boyded now T/as Heartland
15/04/1950 01/01/1985 34 Years, 8 Months, 17 Days
65 Church Street, Parramatta, NSW 2150 (Cnr  Church and Early Streets) 2150 6359688

Hillsdon's were at Auburn, Granville, 3 locations in church street, and they swapped around from used to new locations.

Just to trick you 65 church street was on the corner of Church street and the western road in the 1920's.

Its a nightmare trying to track them down.
