It does not cost $5,000 to put a 308 in a Torrie; I could have one in my car completely registered and technically roadworthy (although still canary-worthy) for under $1500 I reckon. It would run like shit and look like shit, and I'd still have a weak diff and gearbox. That isn't the point though.

Thanks again dude, the colour is a custom mix 3 layer yellow pearl, mixed and painted by my father. He runs his own panel shop and has an oven booth. This is truly an amazing piece of machinary!! absolutely blows me away what some people out there can do (and be able to afford to do!!). Congratulations on a fantastic build.

Yes a 308 of the same quality would probably set me back around the $5,000 mark, it wouldnt go as good or look as good though.
A $1,500 308 is just that, Id rather of stuck with the 1900cc that come out of the car 3.5 years ago.

Heath this conversion doesnt make me a better person then you or anyone on this site, it just shows that anyone can do it with a bit of time and imagination. Are you saying that anyone who has done an LS1 conversion is immediately in a better position to judge the finances and possibly occurring problems with a 308 conversion than somebody who does five 308 conversions a year?

Re: 308 vs LS1, I can tell you big difference in conversions, Ive done a few SBC and 308 conversions in all sorts of Holdens, the 308's are a breeze, the 350's you normally run into stupid problems when fitting P/S, different pullies and extractors never fit, but the LS1 has all them problems + another 20 if you get my drift, any thing that could be an obstacle is an obstacle with the LS1, serious its about the same amount of mucking around as a BBC, just easier to get registered and about 200lbs lighter up front.

Well done and congrats for doing it right, and legal, that must have felt fantastic! Enjoy the cruising, I'm sure you'll turn a lot of heads! What's the note like out of the exhaust with those mufflers?
PS. Can't wait to hear some 1/4 mile times too! For a stockish motor, I reckon she'll go sch...weeeet!
Cheers

I had 255's and they were pretty much the widest I could get, just enough clearance not to scrap, they seemed a lot bigger then the 245's and really filed the guards nicely, Ill try find a pic with those tyres on there. The problem was Intro wheels only made 17's in either 17x7, 8 or 10" in this style, Ideally I needed 9" and could of legally went a 265, but the 255's were too wide for an 8" rim, so back to legialities, like the rest of the car its all by the book.when are you gettin some fat rubber under the rear
no really it looks good mate
But these 245's have better traction then the 255's did, once these get warm they stick nice, the Yokohama's where just tyre fryers.
But with the locker I dont need a stack of rubber as you can wheel spin on full throttle and steer the little sucker straight, if it had an LSD I'd be in trouble though, gutter to gutter.
I know your have a joke about the rubber, but thats the lowdown anyways, thanks for the compliment.

Thanks LX, actually the engine bay isnt my favourite part of the car, thats where I went wrong, being young and inexperienced I sort of rushed it, I should of filled the factory clip holes and hide the wiring better, but I just wanted it easy to work on if there would be a wiring issue.LS1LX, top effort with this car, it's a real beauty! That engine bay is certainly packing a whole lotta WHOA factor!!!! It looks sensational. I was wondering what the car would weigh in at... well under 1300kg is great! Like your mate that you referred to, my SBC/T350/9"/chassis kit fitted LX weighs in at 1480kg. That's a massive difference, especially when we're talking weight over the front end.
Well done and congrats for doing it right, and legal, that must have felt fantastic! Enjoy the cruising, I'm sure you'll turn a lot of heads! What's the note like out of the exhaust with those mufflers?

Thats why I am so keen to do another 1 and get it 100%, not 99% like I feel it is, im still happy with it but just getting fussy these days.
1295KG with a full tank of fuel and a battery pack just in case (1st time out)
Oh those mufflers are sweet, for a big system on a small motor (twin 2.5" from extractors to exhaust tips all mandrel bends) system only has 2 mufflers and 2 straight thru cats, no resonators, I am surprised how there is no drone, just a clean crisp and pretty loud note, from idle to fuel cut-off the noise just gets better, no poxy in it at all. I would buy these or magnaflow mufflers without hesitation in the future, in fact thats all we run on our cars now, I was the test dummy and now everyone I know wants them, haha
