G'day Andy,

T.N.T gave me the highest quote from Syd-QLD close enough to $400.00 inc insurance.
The package will weigh around 7kg, length 1300mm x 250mm x 250mm.

Hi Andy, as Stan(south park) would say "those bastards" I have a TNT account that I havent used for a few years, I gave them a call and I thought their quote was way over the top so I asked them to double check(still the same), what a big difference in price. If you would like to organise the freight I will PM you a total price excluding freight.

Wow thanks Willow,

I have now just about caught up on the orders for the power steering kits and will finish a couple for stock soon, if any fourm members are after a kit let me know. There is a magazine artical on the system coming out later this month which may see the waiting list extend.

Lenny.

I'd also like to say a big thank you to Lenny. The amount of time and effort that have gone into the power steering setup is absolutely amazing.

The power steering kit is A1, top quality. Can't wait to fit it up!

Thanks again for your contribution to the Torana community, it's greatly appreciated.

Cheers! Posted Image

Now that your getting back on top of things us LC/LJ guys would love some more R&D updates on a p/s package for our tori's if you have time.

I would put a 50% deposit down if you need cash up front for the first batch.

Cheers
Ben

G'Day Ben, It's not about money it's all about time, truck repairs are my bread and butter which must come first and I try to do the LX-UC racks in my spare time at work, as soon as we get a few hours spare I get one of my mechanics and myself to make the brackets or parts of, or strip down a rack and carry out the rack mods needed. If I was to get one of my staff to stop truck repairs to do a rack kit it would take one person 14-18 hours, to keep the price down I only do them when we have the spare time other wise It costs me money.

At some time in the future I will look further into LC&LJs power steering, it's just the time that has stoped me and in the begining I ony set out to do my own hatch. I still have a long way to go getting through the current rack kits and when they slow down a bit I will investigate further, or you can sell your LJ and get into a LH-UC and I can help you out sooner LOL.

If anyone has a spare LJ engine cradle and can get it to me I will try and get some R&D done in my spare spare time.

Lenny.

No worries mate i totally understand, just green with envy.

I have too many LC/LJ bits already, but if there was a hatch in Darwin that wasn't riddled with cancer and didn't cost less than 10k I would consider buying another toy.

I have a cross member here but by the time i send it from Darwin it would probably be cheaper to buy a whole car down there :-)

By the way i found the article that someone mentioned about Coad's LJ Rally Car - It has some details on steering geometry/bump steer and shows the Appleton power steering setup installed if anyone is interested.

There is a story in the current (July 2010)Street Machine that may help those inclined to fit power steering.

I would like to echo Willow's sentiments. The Lenny's PS setup is a real advancement to the streetabilty of my LH and the quality of the unit speaks for itself. Inner city driving and parking is a breeze yet it is solid as a rock on the freeway - there is virtually zero bumpsteer. Cheers Lenny and do yourself a favour folks.

G'day Patch,

The basic kit price is $2,700 with the variable ratio rack plus G.S.T and freight, and can be installed in 3 to 4 hours. In addition to the basic kit you will need to supply the power steering pump & mounting bracket, pullys and drive belt, two hydraulic hoses from the rack to pump, and 2 Lts of power steering fluid.

The basic kit contains,
1x rack mount bracket assembly.
1x modified and reconditioned power steering rack.
2x new tie rods ends.
1x steering shaft adaptor, including pinch bolt & nyloc nut
2x rotory valve hydraulic fitting.
2x steel pipes (rotory valve to power steering cylinder)
2x rack mount cradle rubbers.
1x fitting instructions.

Note.1
Power steering rack is assembled in the mount bracket assemble with tie rods set to centre.
12 months warranty on power steering rack.
We will ream your steering arms in the basic kit price.

Note.2
On request we can supply a new power steering pump, 2x 350mm flexable hydraulic hoses from the steering rack.
Due to so many engine and belt drive systems along with alternator positions we do not supply the pump and bracket with the basic kit.

Note.3
Release note must be signed before delivery.

G'day Patch, the kit can be installed by any licenced mechanic this is due to my insurance companys request for my cover, but is very straight foward.

It's hard to tell someone the difference in a few words here they are chalk and cheese, but it would be best discribed as the difference between driving a LH Torana and then stepping into a VS commodore.

Read above Max's comment on his LH Torana after the power steering converstion. They are Max's words not mine.

Thanks for the comments Max, I hope your wife is now beating all the other mothers into the local carpark spaces now.

Lenny.

G'Day Baillie thanks, I have now caught up on the orders and now building some for stock.

The phone has been quite busy since the artical in Street Mechine but is now slowing. Most of the calls have been to sus me out on how I did it, asking the exact model of rack I use and from which model Subaru , what presssure does the system need to run, and can they buy the steering shaft adaptor off me only. To answer the questions- Subaru, Subaru car, a fair bit of pressure, and no no no. But I can supply an adaptor for the same price as the basic power steering kit.

And best of all one caller said "geeeees mate the engine only cost me eight and a half grand, I will tell you what ill do, ill give yah fifteen hundred bucks for one if you have it ready by monday". Wasn't happy when I said I would take his terms of 50% deposit.

So what does that tell you? :nudie: :surrenderwave:

Haha, that's a bit sad, but ya got to expect the odd turkey or 50 hey? : )

I like that - A fair bit of pressure, lol : )

I would love to get a kit but my funds are currently non-existent, hence my project being halted for what must be well over 6 months now.

I stopped after ripping the wiring apart and re-wiring half of it, then stopping because i was waiting to get a new indicator switch for the column.

It'll be good fun figuring it all out again. I guess my plans have kept changing so much that I have stopped work until I know for sure what to do and if I will have funds to actually get it finished in the next 40 years, lol.

The current idea is for just a 5 litre, not sure whether EFI or not at this stage, to be worked and stroked down the track, plus TKO 600 etc etc.

Soooo, my question is, can the system fit up if i'm running a 308 or a 304 with a Hi-Energy sump fitted?

I intend on doing a lot of hard track time. Would it be better to just fit it all and then mod the original sump with baffles etc, or have you fitted one/know of one with a similar setup?

Will be a long time before i'm at that stage, but i'd like to know what's going to work so i don't go and buy the wrong sh!t. Is there a style of pump that you recommend for a 308? Do you recommend running a low mount alternator setup? Would standard 304 EFI gear be ok to work with?

Want to swap your hatch for a sedan? lol, just kidding : )

Hi Baillie, there is no problem fiting the system with a Holden V8, the torana High Energy sumps have the oil pick up at the rear so any winged sump will be to the rear. If your planing to use it for track work then the High Energy sump with internal flap gates would be the go. Any high volume pump known brand would be ok but for high RPM track work will see you soon with most of the oil in the top end so you will need to add a quick return to sump system. The alternator position will depend on what pump and belt system you intend on using.

And for the last question sorry mate I have the hatch and a LH sedan the LH is also getting a 304 EFI so I will let you know what setup when I am finished. I will most likely use the STD VT304 accesories drive setup

Baillie, run external drains from the lower rear of each rocker cover to drain excess oil that doesn't run down through the engine.

These will not foul on the power steering setup :P
