Noooooooooooo, I was looking forward to getting one of those kits after the car was finished and on the road and finances permit.

If you do completely stop making them is there any chance that you may consider releasing information at some stage in future (with the appropriate caveats of course)?

Or possibly sell the jigs etc so someone else could continue your excellent work.

Thanks guys,

I was asked to go into the T.A.F.E system as a part time teacher for heavy vehicles some time ago and have finally decided to give it a go. If they are dumb enough to pay a stupid old bloke like me $69.85 per hour and not get dirty every day, I am going to take up thier offer.

At the end of the day doing the racks = $10.00 per hour profit at work, doing them properly. So if anyone was going to buy my Jigs wouldn't be doing them for the money. I did them for people and the love of the Toranas. I know the price of the kits sounds very expensive but if you stood next to me and watched the whole process you would get some idea how much time, effort and money goes into one kit. To try and keep the costs down I had to do five at a time but then there is lots of money tied up.

Example: to get the steering column adapters made I had to order twenty at a time @ $350.00 each, If I order fifty I can get them for $295.00 each.

The correct variable ratio racks costs me $350.00 each plus freight then we have to mod and reco them, my mate does the rack reco and one of the mods for me cheap @ $650.00 each.

I would think a pro could machine up some of the parts quicker than me and save a bit of time, but on average I spend around twenty five to thirty hours each by the time I pack them up and ship them. Then add the new tie rods and bars ect, ect, ect.

Sure I can now do then a bit cheaper due to the fact that I don't have the overheads that I had at Axis Truck Repairs, but I still need to have insurance when I sell them and that gets very expensive per year. It's the same price if I sell 0ne or one hundred rack kits. Less than twenty kits per year I will be loosing money. I was using my company to foot this bill in our total insurance policy but I carn't do that anymore. The one that made the most money was Julia Gillard's 10 % G.S.T

So for the above reasons I couldn't see it viable to continue at this time.

Anyone wanting a kit just PM me.

Lenny

Due to so many Torana owners asking/hassleing me to supply kits I have decided to continue. Thanks for all the support forum members. I have had to further develope my jigs to save time to keep costs down to save me some valuble time. I have started a new thread which explaines things in more detail.
More info can be found in the steering & suspension thread - Torana power steering kits.

Many thanks Axistr
Lenny.

Got me in two minds now, i purchased a TE cortina rack about 2 years ago for $100 and was going to do the conversion myself, but looking at how well your racks sit axistr i might go that way instead

i'll let Lenny answer first, don't want to pinch a sale . He's done us all a big favour and needs to be compensated for his efforts.

Thanks Lenny. I will be happy either way. I have an LS1 and 6 speed in my hatch so as long as the kit works as everyone has said I will be on cloud nine.
Welby if you want to sell yours let me know, if not, Lenny put me down for the next one you finish.
Cheers,

Leith

Hi guys, what model subaru rack is used? The rack in the picks looks to be shorter than the ones I have. The racks I have vary in length by 20 mm but not as short as what it looks you have in pics ( the shortest I have is 596 mm end to end of shaft). I have an ls1 in my car so rack is mounted lower than std position & drop spindles are used. Bottom of Ls1 sump sits 5- 10 mm above cross member. Any help would be great.

Hi Lenny, are you still making the power steering racks, I hope I can put in an order for one. I'm putting an LS1 into a UC hatch conversion.

The steering rack is one of my initial components for set up. I'm ready to purchase or at least book one in. You work and development are a credit to you.

Please let me know where your at. Cheers

Just a question, has anyone that gets on here used a electric pump off a TS Astra for their conversion?
