can someone give me some advice on tuning holley carbs, like what screw is does what. I believe mine is a 650 vac secondary, or if you can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, there is a whole lot more to this Holley tuning business than can be coverd in a post like this. There are two screws, one each side, on the primaries (they are the throttle blades which open first when you operate the carby) that control idle mixture. Set these at about 3/4 turn out (anticlockwise) for a start. Other than that there is an idle speed screw on the external throttle linkage. However, unless the primary jets, secondary metering blocks, power valves, accelerator pump and secondary metering spring are correct your performance will suffer.
l suggest you lay your hands on a Holley tuning book in order to get started (Holley Carburettors by Dave Emanuel is good)
