hi all,
just putting up a few pics of my 1970 lc gtr.

its a geniune 1970 lc gtr, originally verdoro green metallic with sandalwood trim.

basically i bought it as it is (xu1 mock-up), its got a 186 bored to 192, triple 175 strombergs, slightly bigger cam, xu1 tank, boot spoiler, lj side mirrors, and a black interior with front seats from something else other than the original ones.
oh and its had the guards slightly flared which im not too happy about!

my plans are to get it back to original, but thats gonna cost me a bit.
in the near future tho ill be getting it resprayed and the rust cut out. ill be keeping it yellow dolly, but making it look like a gtr with all the badges, side and rally stripes. ill be getting rid of the spoiler, and both side mirrors, and putting the lc r/h side mirror on.

now i know your thinking why if your gonna spend the money to get it painted, why not get it done in verdoro, well ive got a mate who can cut out the rust and paint it cheap for me, if it stays yellow.
then when i get myself and my cash together to do a full resto ill take it all back to original.

anyway, let me know what you think.
cheers
jordan

If you have another vehicle and you are in no real rush, i would definately recommend bringing it back to metal and going verdoro. green and sandalwood looks hot hot hot.

G'day lcgtr1970,
Your car looks good mate! :D
I know where your coming from, with the long term goal to get your GTR back to original specs! I feel the same with mine! Not looking good though, with the price & difficulty finding good, original or replacement parts!

Good luck with it,your short & long term plans sound good to me,as long as these old tory's have a good home, that's 1/2 the battle i reckon! :D :spoton:

I'd be going and getting some nice wide 13"s and filling up those flared guards! (the job is pretty damn neat, but they look a bit silly with the wheels sitting so far back)

The worst thing you can do to an LC/LJ GTR or XU-1 (as far as originality is concerned) is flaring the guards. But bringing them back to original would cost a fortune (esp. not worth it if you're not taking the rest of the car back to original!), so just make the most of what you've got and make it pretty much how you'd like it.

It"s your car, so do as you please. Personally I prefer the yellow (over green) and it sounds like you know what you want, so "go for it".

Mick.

Hey Jordy,

if you plan on going back to original colour at some time in the future its cheaper to spend the bit of extra cash to do it now rather than some years down the track. I really like how it looks in yellow.....however if you get it green we could start a real green Torana thing around town :D

Mate, Looks good as it is.

I have a Linamint XU1 lookalike and I'm thinking of removing the bobtail and stickers and restiping it as a GTR. Maybe.

Just pace yourself as you see fit with the resto..
Because once you start working to reclaim those guards, you may as well keep going.
It will still look great as a yellow GTR.

John.

very nice looking LC

Just a suggestion but it would look even better with the grille and head light surrounds painted correctly!

cheers
