This is one great read, I too went through the same setup as you guys , but I did mine 22 years ago.
I have just dragged her out of storage and I'm back into the project.
Im in the process off putting a nine inch into mine and from this thread it seems straight forward.

UCA350, the 9" swap is about as straight-forward as they come! I'd never done a diff swap in my life and managed to put my 9" in alone! Make sure you have at least one trolley jack with you when you do it!

Do you have any pics or info on your UC??

Keith

I dont wish to high jake this thread so I will answer a few questions?
I purchased the car in 1983 as the second owner, I was a young 18 year old with my first car.
Flamanco red Hatch SLE , 350, top loader and soon 9 inch.
The motor received about $8,000 worth of work which was alot of money back then.
Since I have had the car it has just been a hobby, rarly driven and always garaged, I wouldn't be surprised if the motor still wasnt run in, everything appart from the obvious is all in new condtion, the rips/tears or rust.
I dont seem to be able to post photos, so I will post some on my web site and paste a link here.

U gotta admit dude the time when it was running sweet was awsome but these things happen all u can do is rebuild it and enjoy the good times again

Does this mean the use of my big red toolbox will be needed

Yeah but did you actually drive it sensibly for 2000kms? Or did you just do 2000kms.

There's nothing wrong with having a bit of fun with a motor like that but I think you've gotta have enough respect to take it easy for the first little while, while the motor sorts itself out. Judging from the way you worded your driving behaviour, it does sound kind of expected...

Did you ever get as far as tuning it Nathan?

Detonation will kill a big end in no time flat, and its a bit hard to hear over a top gear burnout. ;)

Yes I'm fully aware of that, I was just checking if Nathan was equipped with the necessary brains to understand why a motor has to be run in properly.

Pics of my UC after coming out of a 5 year sleep.
These pics were taken right after I got her out of storage so she needed a clean at the time.
I have pics from when I purchased the car till today, when I have them scanned I will start my own thread.
I was just outbid on ebay for a nine inch yesterday, so I may spend the cash and get a respray.
Now that I have a garage and good security, it wont take me long to get her back to former glory.

You just answered your own question, but no I don't really you're particularly stupid. We just see things differently.

EDIT: UCA350 that is tough as. Nice vehicle. Look forward to seeing more pics.
