going to get some 3.5's in the diff... after all its going to be a street car. and if i wanna go for a long drive it would be cheaper to fly anyway haha

sounds like a good alarm, definatly woudnt wanna get it stolen. as i have no insurance at all. and its not really replacable.

cheers,
nathan

3.5 gears, 2900 stall, personally I'd prefer a better manifold but no doubt the budget is tight. Find out what the cam is and get the machining we discussed today. If its put back together properly it should scoot along OK. Don't know if you'll beat Keithy's tho, his cyl heads have 40 years more development over the old double humps.

There's one way to sort the above nathan.... RACE IT!! One of my weeks off i'll have to drive down there and give you a race at willowbank!! You've got 425hp to contend with ha ha!!

yea would be fun going to the drags with our v8s :D we demand pics kieth!! hows it all going.

took the chev parts into my local performance shop today

the 383 has:
Cracked pistons
block Needs a rebore
Has a cat chinese crank
has blow thru
ect ect
aftermath of nitrous

Getting the block Bored out to 060thou
Getting it all balanced
New set of hyper dished pistons
new rings
new bearings all round
New Cast steel Eagle crank
ARP rod bolts and arp main bolts
need to modify my sump

Keeping the double hump heads and elderbrock performer manifold and 750 double pumper.

going to do it once and do it right!!!

dont have nos, we sold our nitrus kit, and its 040thou right now, and requires a rebore, as there is blow through, i dont think replacing the rings will solve the problem perfecly.

whats wrong with a 060 block? its not like im gonna rebuild and bore out again.

Nath,

Things are slow on my front at the moment. I hear Today if the motor is here or not, and if it's not, i will find out exactly when it'll be landing on Auz soil!

Everything else is coming along - i'll have pics of the 9" installed, and the layout of parts thus far in about 1 to 2 weeks time.

Cheers
Keith

P.S. Coming close with a 60thou bore - i'd be tempted to buy a short crate block, they are cheaper than re-boring an old motor plus you can get a 4bolt brand new! No history...

0.060" on a Chev block isn't a real problem... Not for what Nathan plans to do anyways.

Nice kieth, get lots of pics!

a new crate engine = $2850
a re bore and a hone = $245

im sure the quality of the metal would have changed over 30years :tease:

can only really spend about 2k to build up the 383.. which is pretty tight. there is alot of things to buy and do.

the metal quality has changed, but not for the better. ;) The new GM 4 bolt blocks aren't anything special.

Cheers ^^

Just ordered my new 9" diff housing and axels from milton performance!

Torana drums will bolt right on!

i have sourced a 3.5:1 mini spooled center fully rebuilt with genuine ford gears

Going to take my 383 to the shop to get machined and balanced.

then rebuild it myself with new everything..

the last thing to do will be the twin 2 1/2" exhuast,

should be all done within a month

Why would you do all this and stay with drums on the back ?
And probably stock brakes on the front ?

If to change the brakes just do the fronts anyway... doing the rears will just make skids boring unless you install a line locker.

dont need brakes on a chev so do skids haha

the standard 350 chev spins 2x 265 and can go for ages just kicking it out sidways, and its got rear discs.

dumass mack truck nearly squashed us and the rana today.. dumb fembit! gave him some smoke to choke on. :furious:

i think drums are alright as long as you maintain them and make sure there perfectly adjusted.

i think i will go slotted front disc danWA that should help alot!

cheers,
nathan

In QLD we have it easy... I dont even have to do anything to my car to have the chev engineered - too easy.

But for peace of mind the front brakes are being upgraded to 290mm and twin pistons!! The drums are fine (as nathan said - a well adjusted set of drums on the back are perfectly ok)... If I was gonna go track racing, i'd ditch the drums, but this is a street car, and if you can lock up the brakes on the back now, there's no difference when there's a chev in there with an auto box...

Cheers
Keith

Block is cracked.. and has sleeves.. cant bore out anymore as the sleeve will be far too thin.

Goes into the bin with the rest of the 383

shit flexing cast crank... #@$^%& block.... Every! piston is cracked and had mega blow-by. all rooted

swaped my good fresh 350 for this peice of shit
