Umm maybe a stupid question but why was it left to run with no oil pressure for 8minutes?

I think the whole excitment of starting it up for the first time may have led to some rushing and not thinking straight these things happen unfortunately and the only thing u can do is sit back take a breather and suss it all out and try again dont worry nathan u will bounce back bigger and better and dont worry about what people say.....

Sounds like the oil pump pick up has dropped off.

I run a test light from the battery to standard senders when I start up a fresh motor, so I don't miss any problems while working under the bonnet.

Yeah man, i'm with Bottledup on this one! I am lucky to have a fortnight of work at a time, but i tell you - when you do come back to the car after a week of problems you sure feel refreshed and ready to get stuck into it!

I'll hopefully be there for Powercruise this year, i'll stop in and check it out then!!

Good luck man, i hope there's no damage to the motor.

update on the uc :tease:

took a few weeks to get over my engine not running right

found some missing oil gallery plugs which caused the low oil pressure, if anyone was curious. glad to have found the problem

got off pretty light, just a crank journal linish and polish and all new bearings.

started to rebuild the motor. crank, rods and pistons are all in. should have zero problems this time :D

Shouldnt matter if oil pickup drops ...Chev were desgned for the oil pump to be submerged, yeah you would lose pressure but still have enough .

Question UC you did prime the pump before start up ? Should of showed like 20+ psi at least on prime

i primed it without a gauge, didn't really know what i was doing. i have a good understanding of the oil system now and know what im doing.

beginners mistake :tease:

oil pick up was still perfect :spoton: i bought a new welder so ill spot weld the pick up on.

If the pump was submerged it wouldn't matter about the pickup... but no oil gallery plugs won't help the oil supply. ;)

hmmm, you mig, stick or tig the pick up mate ?

I know when i got mine done they put a inertia gas inside the pickup to stop the heat flaking pieces on metal inside ..if you get what i mean . WOuld like to see you going to all this to get the oil pump jamming or clogging up .

Yeah should hook up a gauge( MAster gauge ) on the oil sender and see what psi you get on priming. ANd im not sure what you mean by priming but i prime with using a proper tool but you attach a pistol drill to ... with the dizzy removed and prime the engine before cranking it over.I know i got up to 30psi with the drill .

SOrry if im asking silly questions just trying to be helpful.
