I just picked up a holley off the old man. He told me it used to be fitted to a VC Commodore and he said it was a 350 Holley. I looked at it and it looks nothing like a 350. It's a dual throat carby with electric choke, vaccum secondary butterfly and a heap of vaccum lines. How do you ID a holley. Are there numbers? Where are the numbers?? Any info appreciated.

Typically Holley have identification numbers on the front of the airhorn where the choke butterfly is located.
These can be seen on the front of the carby with the air cleaner removed, usually a five digit number like this; 4777-2 or 1850-3. These are four barrel carby numbers, so post the numbers or a photo and numbers would be better.

photo and numbers would be ideal.

but from what you've described, it sounds like a vara-jet carby as used on blue and black Holden sixes

If it looks like this one it's a Commodore Varajet

It's definately not a varajet, it's fot 'Holley' moulded into the body of the carby. Will try to look for the numbers and try to get a pic. Problem is I've never posted a pic before so it may take me some time.

Found the numbers, stamped on the side of the carb, on the base ple. L6536. Tood off the air cleaner base (bolted on) and I found a tag with said L6536 8 296. On the side of the throats it had 26 & 27, both numbers surrounded by a circle. Can anyone tell me whether this carb is suitable for a pretty stock 202??

Looks like a Holley 180. They are a Weber 32/36 DFV/DGV carb that was sold by Holley for 4 cylinder engines. These are a nice carb for an engine under 2.0L and are a progressive 2 barrel which means that the 32mm primary opens first followed by the 36mm secondary unlike a Holley 350 which is much larger and opens both venturis together.

Yep I agree definately a Holley 180 or a 32/36 Weber Copy as bodallafella says.

Great for a 2lt Escort/Datsun/Gemini but might be a tad small for a worked six but might get you by on a standard 161/173 if your desperate.......a 350 Holley would be a better choice and if built properly will give reliable performance contrary to popular opinion.
