This is in behind the number plate where the petrol filler is. This hole was where the gas filler was.. After I yanked it all out, I cut out a new piece of commodore, tack welded it in. Once it was all lined up and sweet, I welded it in properly and gave it all a coat of rust convertor. Lovin it :D

I only mig'd on the inside of the boot as I didn't want any sparks going near the petrol tank lol.. I did have it all covered up but you can never be too careful!!

The last bit of rust in the car is in behind the rear bumper! And it is the last!! WOO :D

This is what I was facing, both the LHS and RHS..

Posted Image

Posted Image

I wasn't exactly sure how I should be going about fixing up this part, but in the end I just started grinding away all the shitty metal and rust for a start.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Once I could see what was going on in there, I realised I could just cut out a section and weld a new bit in.. So thats what I did lol..

Posted Image

I found the main reason for all the rust on both sides.. Dirt!! It was bloody everywhere.

Posted Image

This is the reason the dirt was getting trapped there. It gets flung up from the tyres and sits in this perfect little dirt trap lol..

Posted Image

This is the same type of shot but when I had cut out the rust from the other side.. You can see from the light where it all gets stuck. I am going to weld a piece of plate over this from underneath so no dirt can get stuck up in the little channel.. I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND EVERYONE DOING THIS! Or cleaning it out every time you wash your car.. But you cant get in there too well.

Posted Image

I kept hacking away with the grinder to fully remove all the rust. I have made a new piece to weld in but I forgot to get pics. Will do tomorrow..

Posted Image

After a splash on rust convertor..

Thats all for this weekend. Stay tuned for the next update tomorrow night :D

looking good azza!! i will surely be doing something similar in regards to that rear bever panel issue... when i started striping my car back the dirt just poured out of there!! its two sections of the car that dont actually meet up and the dirt just gets stuck in there then the water and then the rust...

What are you going to do with that rust that has gone through into the boot? are you just going to mig it up? also how well does migging up the rust holes in the window channel last? if you use the converter then mig up the holes how long do you think it would be before it came back?

you are now ahead of me for the rust repairs... EDIT: i dont mean that in a bad way i think what your doing is awesome!! :D damn uni is a time killer...

Cheers Leigh

The rust should'nt come back where I mig'd the window seal. As long as there is sufficient silicon used when putting the window back in, there should never be any rust there ever again :)

That rust hasnt actually gone through into the boot. That's just some chanel..

I am just going to leave that for now, the rust convertor should have done the trick. And I poured some into the holes. The plate will cover over the whole lot. And I will spray fish oil in there every few months anyway :)

Hopefully that should prevent it enough! Fingers Crossed

As soon as I got the 304 out of the VH, I stuck it on a pallet, wrapped it up and put it up on the pallet racking. And that's where it's sat ever since lol. Havn't touched it..

But I have got all the wiring lume, comp, ignition module and everything ready to go in. But I am thinking of stripping the lume down completely and wiring it up to suit.

Im going to be getting stuck into the engine soon though. As soon as the paint is on its all engine/driveline time :)

I made a bit more progress tonight on the tory. I started on the rust on the left hand side at the back. Got it all cut out, rust converted, got the replacement part cut to fit, just needs to be welded in :)

Not too long now at all.

Ok went nuts tonight with the Ozito dremil type drill I bought last night. 40 bucks, bargain.

Was using 80 grit wheels in it to get rid of all the shit casting look. Then I started rubbing it back with 120 grit sand paper.

Starting to looks pretty good.

And I got the other side of the rear all welded up tonight. Didnt take pics of when it was all in as it was too dark.

Buying my paint this week. Im going VZ Blue.

Those manifolds look like a bastard of a shape to polish - heaps of hand work down in the corners.

Have you ever tried the scotchbrite surface conditioning belts? For the accessible bits, you go straight from the rough cast finish to the 400 grit in one go - they are majic things.

Yeh mate everything that is happening to the torana is 100% done by myself. Apart from the diff and tailshaft and crossmember.

The crossmember was made by Damo - cheers mate.

The diff and tailshaft I will get Rodtec to do. But I might cut the diff down and weld it myself.

Yeh mate I'll let you know all the figures of the paint when I get it.

Cheers
