hey azza just a quick question about your king springs, are they lows or super lows? do you know how well they sit? im thinking of going superlows but im worried they may be too low for the front?

G'day azza coming along nicely.
I have custom king springs, they were reset for a 2 1/2" drop all round. It's very very low, my cat's are sitting a mere 60mm off the ground. Looks mighty tough though!

Toryman, I have king spring lows. As keith said they don't make a super-low. Mine aren't in yet though, so dont know what they will look like.

Neil. There wasn't much left on teh VH at all. I took most of the roof, and the rear quarters lol. It's at the scrap metal yard now tho.

Keith it will hopefully be done by the end of the year. Paint should be done by the end of August at the latest. Just in time for my bday lol..

Im also looking at a blower kit as well for the 355

It was surprisingly easy to get the lip on that part right. Vice grips, pliers and a hammer did the trick lol. Just put a small cut with the grinder in the back of the metal to help the bend. Turned out killa.

thats all welded up now too but I didnt get a pic.

whats the penetration like on the welds you are doing? i found when i was mucking around on the weekend, that the gasless wire can be very sensitive to how far out the wire is sticking from the tip of the gun... or is this the case for all mig welding? i found that about 10mm was a pretty good length, but thats with a stop starting technique...

Yeh the pictures dont do it much justice though. Yeh around 10-15mm is what I use.

Real quick update.

I started grind ing down all my welds yesterday and have 2 of the doors all finished up. 2 to go. Then just gotta weld a little bit under the dash and then rub rub rub paint paint paint :)

Shouldnt be long now.

Gonna start getting my engine bits done soon too. Gotta decide if I'm gonna stroke it or not. More than likely will. Kits are pretty cheap and it's easy HP.

whats the plan of attack for grinding the welds back azza? will you be using a bit of bog to smooth it off?

Gday guys got a bit of an update for ya.

Finished rebuilding the front end. I got it all powder coated. All Noltec bushes, king springs, KYB shocks, HQ dba slotted rotors. Came up sick.

Also today I just picked up my new diff. It's a VN V8 LSD Borg warner.

The car still isnt painted yet. I have been really slack on body work lately. Also have been getting some quotes on stroker kits for the 5L.. Should have that sorted in a couple of weeks. Then gotta get some engine work done..

Still aiming to have the car finished by the end of the year..

Cheers

hey good drills mate,

the front end is looking tops. Body work is a slow process but its all coming together there.
What sort of power are you looking from the 304-355 set up? Carb or efi?

Cheers
James.

It will be EFI mate. Im looking for around 200kw at the rear wheels from it. Doesnt really bother me what power I make. As long as it's somewhere around there.

It will just really be a cruiser, and if we ever get a track back and running in SA I wanna take it out and race occasionally.

Cheers

Hey Azza, Beaut looking work mate.

Just one little tip that i've picked up, when you smooth the welds down and bog over them, put a thin skim of fibre tough body filler on first. Also called gorilla hair, probably a few others. Just ask the paint place jobber for fibre tough he should be able to help you.

The reason being, this stuff is water proof to a fair extent, whereas bog soaks up water.

That way if a bit of water gets inside your doors, through the rust proofing, it cant penetrate the welds and soak into the bog, your sealing it up.

Cheers.

hey bomber thats some good advice there, i am doing similar stuff to my body as azza at the moment so i will be sure to do that. one question i do have though, is using high fill similar to using body filler? what im getting at is if when the weld is ground back and not much is needed to smooth it off could you use high fill instead? or is that just stupid? i plan to paint my own car so trying to piece together all the information now.

thanks heaps
