This is a pic of my resprayed rim with very used chrome trim, centre cap and acorn wheel nuts.

Rims look black eh ?
Nuh, it is Dulux Grey Metalic shade No. 13384. The flec I used for mine is just a metalic aluminium paint.
My car rims have an even spray of flec where original rims mostly have more flec on one part as if it had and probably was sprayed from one direction only.
I have seen LC GTRs with the Silver rims which may have been because of which Assembly Plant it came out of. Pics with these rims were from magazines of that era and not of restored cars.
Ask around and you may find the colour of the rims is Grey albeit a very dark shade of grey bordering on black.
I thought they were black till I did a bit of research when it came time to have my rims respayed.
I hope this helps, regards............Barry
Yes LC/LJ GTRs only had nibbed rims but the first LC XU-1s had the nibless rims which had a thicker guage of steel for the centres. This may have been because they were being raced?

Barry, I think that the nibless rims were a running change to the 1971 Bathurst cars, although they might have been introduced slightly before the 1971 Bathurst XU-1 was announced. I'm pretty sure that the first LC XU-1's didn't have them, and that some LC XU-1s suffered from cracked front rims on the racetrack.Yes LC/LJ GTRs only had nibbed rims but the first LC XU-1s had the nibless rims which had a thicker guage of steel for the centres. This may have been because they were being raced?
The nibless rims were made out of thicker metal. What I have heard, but can't confirm, is that because the metal was thicker, the nibs couldn't be pressed into them, so they didn't introduce them as a change to all Toranas, only the XU-1s. It was probably also an overkill to strengthen the rims on road going cars.

Nibless rims, well the last set I see go on Ebay went for $839
They were from Tassie so add freight to that price and you don't get too much change from a $1,000.
For me owning a GTR, I would not even worry about trying to find a set but for that die-hard enthusiast who craves for 100% originality, definitely something to aim at getting.
If you add up the cost of getting nibless rims, proper coloured centre caps, Acorn Nuts and Mickey Mouse dress rims then you could be looking at a $1,600 gaping hole in your wallet. OUCH.

Maybe Dr Tery could shine some light on when the LC XU-1s came out with nibless rims as I believe the first ones had them. I'm probably out on this one.
Regards.............................Barry

I got sick of people telling me that i had the wrong wheels on my LC XU-1 so I put on the nibless off the LJ... Now they tell me that my LJ is too early to have sprintmasters on it and it should have nibless wheels...

another option for 13x5.5 rims is VC/VH
4cyl commodores, we use these on the trailer
they're the same bolt pattern.
antony, i'll call in soon, been a bit busy

If they are 13x5.5" rims they are the same as GTR rims. The later rims have the size stamped near the valve hole, early rims (LC/LJ) have the size on the outside of the rim(inside the tyre).
Thanks Grant that clears things up and i now know what to look for
