As you all can read, 393 clevo in a torana, WHY !. I thought long and hard about it and came to the conclusion that a chev powered torana is like an asshole, everybody has one. To paint the picture more clearly, every 2nd tuff torana has a FORD 9 inch diff, a FORD top loader gearbox so why not put a 4V 600+ hp 393 clevo in it. When i first started the project, it took a fair amount mucking around working out how to fit the engine in properly. The gearbox(C4) not a problem. Finally i got the front cross member modified, custom extractors, now the engine looks like it was ment to be there. I wish i had some pics to post, but when i do i will. Anyhow look forward to reading the feed back, Cheers !

its different... But i dont really mind. I would only care if it was in an SS, SLR A9X etc.

But if you have a 600hp motor in your car.... thats enough for me!!

True that.

I guess you couldn't get pass the lovely looks of a Torana. (much better than the old Fords). I would be lucky to even have 100hp :<_<:

9 times out of 10, no one knows whats under the hood of a car anyway. until someone pops it open, u have no idea what it could be (roughly)

Sorry i haven't replied over the weekend, been away. I wouldn't do a custom engine swap in a genuine SS, A9X, L34 what eva. But, Toranas still to date have that perfect muscle car look about them i know, but you cant go past the ford driveline. At least i have kept to the V8 theme, not a rotary or R33. But anyhow only milk and juice come in 2 litres !

I have been thinking the same, but using a windsor in my lc. Different is good :spoton:

HI SSL31. I did have the SS on ebay. I listed it for a friend. It is a genuine L31 M21 GU7. It was relisted again the other day on ebay not by me or the owner. Could not believe the negative feed back posted on this site about that particular vehical. As for all the critics who could only pick on the minor imperfections for a 30 year old car, it was never listed as a ground up restoration. The engine bay was cleaned up and any missing decals were replaced with REPRODUCTION decals. Apart from those minute little imperfections, not a bad example of a muscle car 30yrs old hey! All the original rego papers verify the Kms . All those who claim re manufactured ID tags from the states, get some pics and post them on the site so we all know what to look out for when we want to by an original aussie muscle car.

Gday Scottya, Welcome to the forum!

I've gotto say.. that in just on two pages of posts so far, I'm happy that you havent gotten a bagging like has happened in some other threads of a similar vein! Good stuff!

My opinion is that hey it's different! And bloody well good on ya for doing something outside the box! It's not something i would choose to do, but good work!

Would defintiely be interested in seeing some pictures of the car/engine bay, and how did you go with sumps, engine mounts and stuff?

Cheers!

why stop at the ford 9 inch, top loader and also go for the ford block, good on you for having a go.

its not like your changing the outside and interior appearance at the end of the day it still looks like a torry.

I must say I do like the note a big block ford (or small block for that matter) produces, it just sounds awesomely grunty. Good on ya man for daring to be different.

I saw a mean looking and sounding black benz at willowbank a week or so ago. Powered by a Ford as well. Geeze it was nice and got plenty of onlookers too.

WHY IS THIS THREAD WORTHLESS WITH OUT PICTURES. If you read what i posted earlier, you would have noticed that i did say i will put pictures up WHEN i get some. A few mates have seen the engine and gearbox sitting in the engine bay when i sent it to the exhaust shop and they seen it when i brought it bach. They couldn't believe how nomal it looks sitting in there, even the exhauast bloke said it was easier do the custom extractor for the clevo than it is doing a chev in a torana.
