Interesting combo. Can appreciate the work involved.
Is it the photos or are the ford heads on a steeper angle than holden and chev?
Does this make the fit between the rails easier?

UDLOSE :- I agree that all the best toranas dont have any holden parts in them.
But that opinion would be a red hot debate amongst the diehard holden
fans.
2600s :- Dont really need to trim the chassis rail back for this engine transplant.
There is plenty of room for the plugs to be removed. But i will trim
them up when i get around to tidying up the engine bay.

HatchmanSS76 :- yeah thats just the design of the cleveland heads. They (FORD)
designed a huge intake port for plenty of top end, but they
dumped the exhaust to sharp due to the limit space in the
engine bays.

FINALLY ! after dummy assembling everything back into car in july and being told on several ocassions, that
your car is booked in to have the exhuaust fixed next week, it finally got done 2 weeks ago along with the engine plate.
Ended up doing away with the 1' 3/4 tri-y's and going to 4 into 1's. Primary's are 1"7/8 stepped upto 2" secondries into 3" collectors, the pipes look pretty trick with all mandrel bends and custom made cllectors. The engine plate came up pretty good also. Unable to post pics tonight, was have trouble with photobucket. Will try again tomorrow to upload and post pics.

So how long before she going? I see by the pictures the Clevland fits better than a 308. You have heaps for room with no engine mounts down ths side of the block wouldn't you?

Had to notch the K-Frame to get both pipes around steering properly

Told engine builder yesterday that i will require engine to be completed by the end of January,
and minitubs will be done by the same bloke that done my exhaust system and will be completed
2nd week in november. Not rushing completion , but hope to have it on the road around July.

should be fun/scary to drive when it is finished.
As everybody knows, you start with a bubget, but you blow that half way through.
Then you get hold ups and set backs along the way.
You build a descent motor, then you gotta build a descent box, then a diff to handle it all
and the list goes on.
Interesting to note in the replies so far that there has been a few other toranas out there with
clevos in them.

The collectors are beautiful. Is the front engine plate the only support at the engine? Does this put a lot more weight on the gearbox cross member?

Lakeside - I know what ya mean, my motor , diff and gearbox is up around the 30 k mark, and thats diff with out
centre and tail shaft. If i had a spare 10 k laying around, i could spend that tomorrow no problem.

76lxhatch - yep, thats all the engine is mounted by and the usual gearbox mount . Engine plate mounted
like that is no problem. The plate is 8mm thick with 4 sleeves machined up and welded through the plate
and the bushes go right through. The brackets on the chasis rails are braced right around and are plated
inside chasis aswell. If plate or bracket move or what ever, it wasn't meant to be.
Posted Image
as you can see 4 seperate bushes

picture show sleeve welded right the way around and bushed right through

Nice close-up pics but I meant at the gearbox end. I can see that the plate will hold plenty of weight but because the standard engine mounts support the engine further back I'm thinking that the gearbox mount and cross member is going to have more weight on it than normal.

76lxhatch, if there is any extra weight carried by the gearbox cross member, it would only be marginal anyway.
the engine mounts on the clevelands are just infront of centre on the block. The crossmember i am using,
is a V8 XD cross member with right angle brackets weld on the ends that mount in the original torana position.
Looked at those Rod shop ones they sell tosuit toploaders into toranas, they appear to be to flimsy.

Yeah some of the Torana cross members are quite flimsy, sounds like you've got it all sussed. Let's just say that I'm not very familiar with Fords, finding this very interesting though, good on ya.

WOW !!! A9X and L31 SS, that would make the torana blokes dry reach. I suppose in todays Torana market , you would be hunted down and hung for doing such a thing, but back in yesteryear that would of been a major improvement ! :-)

Would be interesting to see photos of both cars though.

HI doubleSStrouble, have not seen the green convertable hatch in the flesh as yet, but have seen it on ebay and a picture of it on the forum
befor. Whatare your plans with it ? be sure to post updates.

why-psi yeah i wanted a different torana than whats out there. unless you lift the bonnet and look, you wont no whats in the engine bay.
a capri would be nice.

How quick plans change. Tubs were due to be done next week, the fabrication shop is relocating, so wont be able to be done
around xmas time now. Should have engine in around the end of February so engine builder told me yesterday. There is light
at the end of the tunnel !
