I need to have a steel disc cut out very similar to the diagram below:

Posted Image

it will be 240mm in diameter and will need to be made from 2mm plate.

Can anybody recommend somewhere that would be able to do this ?

Where in Melb are you?
I'll ask one of the fitters here at work if you like...can't promise anything...extremely busy installing a new printing press atm.

If youve got some dimensions for the cut outs, it would make it alot easier, but i'd be calling a laser cutting place. Theres heaps up in sydney so i;m sure melbourne would have plenty too!

The major cost with that is the setting up time, so if you only need one it could be a bit expensive. If you can give them that drawing with the size of the cut outs ( the steps), then it wouldnt take them so long to set their computers up to do the cut which would save you some! Depending on what it is.. it may pay you to get a second ( or more) cut at the same time too.. once theyve got it cutting its really only the matierial cost!

Cheers.

I'm in Foostcray knoath.

Thanks for the advice Tiny. I haven't calculated the widths of the slots yet. Once i do i should be able to get it drawn up in CAD.

This is the trigger for my crank angle sensor and will definelty be a one off. Running the chev v6 DFI system on a holden 6 isn't really common practice.

240mm Diameter!? thats a bloody big trigger plate! (24cm!) ( i kinda thought that's what it looked like...) But yeah, if you can do as much of the work as possible it'll benefit you! My laser cutters arent back till next week, but if you do have a CAD drawing of it, i could ask them what it would cost to have cut, (Just thought of it.. you'll also need the centre bore size), and postage to you would be SFA!

Sounds like your into a good conversion, best of luck.

Are you going to be using programmable engine management? It wouldnt hurt to contact them to see if they can help you out.

I have a similar disc for my RB30 that I got from my ECU supplier.

Yeh.. a bit like bolting a dinner plate to your balancer.
at first i was turned off by it beacause i thought it would look stupid.. but it makes for the simplest mounting of the CAS. i have made an adjustable bracket that mounts the sensor off the two front sump bolts.

I still might investigate changing the sensor mount to reduce the size of the trigger.. i think its gonna look a bit rare at 240mm.

My brother managed to use a dizzy from a VT commodore on his V8 ( 308) setup so that the CAS was inside the dizzy. Infact thats all he uses the dizzy for, he's running coil packs.

I wonder if there are any distributors that would fit the red 6 that would have the same chopper disc in them? That way you could use its signal as your CAS too.

That would be nice.. only trouble is i don't have room for a distributor.

i'll have my supercharger hanging off the drivers side of the block. :spoton:

the only engines i know of that use this chopper wheel are the chev 60 degree v6, some lada vehicles and the isuzu v6 in early 90's jackaroos. I think that in all these aplications the trigger is actually part of the crank anyway.

You might have the option of triggering off the flywheel as a possibility.

yes chopper... the VK EST sensor is a simple variable reluctance sensor just like the isuzu one i have at the moment and could therfore work with my iginition module.

Decisions, decisions.. i've gotta get out there and do some more measuring!

haha.. I wish! pulling the motor out to drill seven 1/2" or so holes in my flywheel still leaves me with a bit of mucking around.. It is essentially simpler though as i would have less moving parts.

thanks rodomo.. I have looked into this option too.

I have a set of VN chopper wheels and a VN CAS (twin hall effect) here.. to use these i would need to have a boss made to mount the chopper wheels out off the front of the crank.. a set of holes in the flywheel or a single flat disc bolted to the balancer would be much simpler.

The v6 choppers only three triggers as they fired 2 injectors at the same time. The VK setup fires all six injectors at the same time. It all depends on the computer used to run this and the setup you wish runs in the injector path... What is the total picture???

Cheers

im running delco efi.. hence the use of the isuzu/chev iginition module.

Total picture?
This has changed a little since i last posted details on it.

VN V6 based efi
Kalamaker modified Delco 808 ECM
VN V6 throttle body, TPS & IAC Valve
VN MAT, CTS, knock sensor and oxygen sensor
2 bar MAP sensor
VP injectors
3.2l Jackaroo V6 ignition module & VR V6 coil packs.

the only thing left to figure out is how to setup this crank trigger.

At the moment im leaning towards making a new CAS mount so as i can reduce the diameter of my trigger (2mm disc bolted to balancer).
