As most of you know, I'm painting my LX sedan with the full bodykit flat black. It's looking really mean. But I would like to do something a little different to make the car stand out. At powercruise I saw an XY in flat black, but he had the GT stripe with the roo down the sides in bright fluro orange. It really set the car off. I was thinking of doing the same kinda idea but with the GPAK stripe down the side of the car. I can barely remember how it looks and I have no idea if it will work with flares. Anyone got pics? Can you get them as decals or does it have to be painted on?? I'd prefer to do it with a decal or vinyl so if I get sick of it I can remove it.

my stripes are painted and the decal is the body colour.

the yellow g-pak "GSTRING" below has stickers for stripes and the decals.

Wow, hot looking car mate! I don't think the wheel arch stripes will go over the flares alright though and the gpak decal would be half on the front flare

Why are you going flat black? It will be a bitch to look after and it will look very dirty and generally well...shithouse unless it's spotless at all times. Most flat black cars you see around honestly look like their owner doesn't give a damn. Just my opinion.

There's a few reasons.

- Firstly I reckon I strongly beleive that it will look good. Most of the flat black cars your talking about look like the owner doesnt give a shit because they most likely dont. Since my thing is already stripped down to nothing, it's getting a decent job. The car is about 50% painted and I'm very happy with the results. I had proper decent quality paint mixed up, it's not the shitty gmh chassis black or painted in rattlers.
- It's my first attempt at spraying a car, I don't have quality equipment and my garage leaks so everything keeps getting stuffed up.
- I'm in a hurry to get it back together as I will be moving house later this year and if it's a pile of parts it'll end up on ebay like so many projects do.
- I can't afford to do everything right from the start - thats why the thing has been sitting around stripped for almost 4 years! I was tossing up between good paint and skanky motor or tough motor and skanky paint job. I opted for performance over looks. Now that I'm running my own business I'm earning 1/3 of what I was back in 2005, all I want to do is just get it out to the track and have a little fun with what I've got.

With that said, if I can do something to it to make it a little different fairly easily, I will. I'm really liking that monaro stripe why-psi! :D

Looking at what you are trying to achieve i would advise white. I still remember the matt black Torana's of the early 80's and i carnt say i remember a nice looking one. Happy to be shown different.

People keep saying that. The paintjob is almost finished and it does look good. It's a matter of taste. Some people like mint julep and pershan sand too, I'd rather drive around in primer than those in colours.

Mick, got any pics? I can't remember exactly how they go.

BTW: I don't plan to leave the car like this forever, I just want to get it going for now and I've always liked flat black. The dream is to still one day paint it in absynth yellow with the full SLR5000 blackouts/stencils. That paintjob takes alot of work and fiddling around. In a few years when I've got more painting expirience, a good place to work on it and some real money I'll take it on.
