So im at the point of my project where I need to decide whether to make my LH L32 SLR a L34 look alike which as you all know I will need to cut the guards or shall I keep it as a stocker, keeping in mind it is going to have a 355 stroker in place of the 4.2 and a 4 speed in place of the auto.

it has been a full metal resto all will be bought to standard apart for the motor and box which I may add is sitting on a pallet on some racking in my shop.

Any comments?

I, personally, would go unflared. Maybe minitub it, get some fat wheels inside the stock guards?

Pics are great. :spoton:

Hi, I would definately go no flares, maybe minitubs, stick with the L34 theme and put a big set of 15x8 gts monaro rims on the back, 15x6 on the front. CHEERS

flares make LH and LX look much tougher. if u want ur car too look tougher as well with the 355 then i'd go flares. if u want it to be like more of a hidden beast sorta thing then unflared

thats my opinion

I think flares make Torry's look rough. It's like 'I need bigger wheels. I know, I'll hack into the guards and bolt some fibreglass on!'

But yeah. I like refined, clean cars.

Flares look good, but it's been done over and over, unflared for something different.

Hi
The factory colour is casino blue with black trim.I supose the other question is is it worth anything as a L34 or a stocker?

I dont plan to sell it as i we be passed on to my 1st son which means i need to build another for my second son.

my ultimate goal is to have a L34 for me.cheers

Your SL will never be an L34. I'd keep it stock bodied, these cars are getting harder to find as unflared examples. There was plenty of cars fitted with flares back in the 80's.

If I had a choice between a flared and an unflared car, in the same condition, for the same price, I'd get the unflared.

ask ur son what he prefers??? i know that alot of ppl who dont know much about toranas think that flared ones look 'awesome'.
btw its not about being different its about what you want your car to look like

IMO it has a lot to do with being different. You want something that stands out and grabs people's attention.

I'd drive a Corolla if I didn't want to be different.

No flares but good looking toranas do to as they are getting rarer and rarer.

It is always about what you want. some love either or both, some just love UC's some just LC's and LJ's or whatever, getting the drift. No one can make your mind about what you want cause its yours and going by others opinions makes it not completely yours in the long run.

^^ so does bad grammar, but that's for another thread.

I have a pretty distinct taste in cars. I love big, modern wheels on old cars, which a lot of guys think looks shithouse. In the same respect, I love those big, modern wheels bolted to clean, smooth, bright cars.

If it was my LH in question, it'd be unflared, metallic blue or orange or green, with a set of 17" or 18" wheels.

The bottom line is what you want. But remember, once you've cut into the guards, you can't turn back easily.

So lots of mixed feelings about this topic.

BTW tim its a SLR

If the car was for me I probably be like the rest and follow the cattle trail to the flair's paddock.

But its for my son, at this point he just learnt how to count let alone make decision weather he wants a L34 look alike or a stocker.

This may sound crazy but it ill be another 12 years before he ever gets his hands on it. But in 12 years how many SLR are going to be around.

My job is to restore the heritage that the car deserves .The problem that I have found is with the current mussel car rush, People are just waken em together for a profit .sad news for genuine collectors.

So im just trying to get some opinions from the collectors view .I would rather do this resto to a L31 but hard to find stock ones priced well for restoration.

Looks like ill keep it as a stocker and keep looking for a LH L31 for resto.

Cheers

Does any one know if the second stripe of the window blackout on the LH SLR
Was a pin stripe or paint?

And has anyone got the measurements.

Were the tops of the doors in the interior painted or trim?

What was the colour of the Air vent section of the dash near the windscreen?

I just pulled the wiring harness out of an SL because it is very neat will it have the same connections for the SLR dash for the extra gauges

cheers

depends on the trim code of the vehicle

yes the wiring in that harness is the same apart from the tacho(brown) wire.unless the donor had factory fitted sports dash.
