Seatbelt Solutions

They can rewebb your existing belts to Australian Standards or supply new.

HI 74 LH SLR, I have been following your build for a while and your doing a great job by the look of it and thanks for posting the build thread, I hate to be a downer but your seat belts are past it sorry mate I had a friend who did what you did after his mate did it and told all how great they were cheap as and looked like new, he died when the seat belt snapped in an accident, my mate went out the next day and threw his refurnished seat belts away. It is just not worth it and in the overall scheme of things your family are worth NEW safety belts aren't they? Sorry to rain on your project but you have done such a great job everywhere else.

Im not having a go here, as Im sure its a touchy subject, but what does the boot polish actually do to the belt which causes it to snap? Im very curious and interested to find out. Could it have been that due to the belts age it failed regardless of polish or not?

I doubt the polish had any effect on the strength of the belt. If the belt is faded then it is reasonable to expect its strength will be reduced.

From the Seatbelt Solutions website

Re-webbing your seat belts can save your life. Studies have shown that seat belts with frayed edges or tears as small as 5mm can reduced seatbelt strength by as much as 50%. Combined with the fact that age and exposure to the sun reduces the belts integrity, the seatbelts you are using could be completely useless.

Yeah I hear yah, but I just cant find a new set, been looking for a while. My other option is to retrofit a more modern style from a late common-dore .if anyone has a link to a quality belt supplier please post it.

Just get your seatbelts rewebbed mate. That way u have original style buckles and new belts for safety. That's what I did anyway. Btw What month is on your original build plate?
Love your build up !! :)

Hi Brad
it was not the dyeing of the seat belt that is the issue, that they are faded and sun damaged is and shoe polish or dye won't fix that, I had mine re-webbed but if I had known of someone offering new buckles etc I would have done that, maybe it is the industry that I work in getting to me but there are no short cuts to safety, no offend no second chances
now back to the al-some build

Each to their own I guess, this is why we humans are so different . it just has that 70's look to it :)

Rear louvres were a big hit in the 80's.

I still have mine on.

Do you need to do some elec. mods to fit these ones?

I recall an article showing how to re-wire for halogens.

The park lights on the Narva lamps are too low to fit without cutting into the body.

The Hella 1058 park lamps fit better but you still have to cut a recess into the bucket.
