LJ355 i fully agree with you. Though i do keep on getting told about how people know people who use them and never have had any problems with them.
I received an email back from the ebay company i bought them off, most likely cause of my studs breaking is they were weak before i installed the adaptors which i seem to think might be the case also. They also said that adaptors come out standard on Porches.. and that they have been engineered.
I picked up a new panel in good condition for $55 and fitted it a few nights ago, here's a picture.

Now all she needs is a decent paintjob and some new wheels and she's near complete.
CHOPPER - i'll let you know if i'm up for getting rid of the adaptors, if you want i can send them over to you so you can have a look? Where abouts are you located?
Kevhaze, yeah it was a good trip to ky, went to the vintage engine show with my great uncle, he owns a green (not exactly sure what green) lj gtr torana. Too bad about the drive home hey!

Thanks,
Rhys.

I know this is an old thred but I just wonted to add my 2 bucks worth (inflation)lol. It looked like a close call rhysandhislx.I think you did well to get out of it with realy, pritty minimal damage.First of I've had this happen to me in 2000 with out having eny wheel adapters at all.But luckely I was only doing 60k,s when I felt the front left wheel feel wobly it didn't realy vibrate but I new strait away it wasn't right. So I acted quickly on applying the park brake to stop me.Luckily I didn't lose the wheel but I managed to break off 2 of the studs with the wheel hanging out the side.I was a bit shaken but very lucky there was no other damage.I think it helpt because I only veerd slightly. And this was 40k's away from home at 7 oclock so I rang mum and she come and saved me.Thanks mum lol.I got it home safe and I put new wheel studs in.Eny way I have wheel adapters, thay receve a 5x108 pcd to a 5x120 pcd 30mm thick(extra negative offset)made out of billet alloy. That I had made in 06 but when I receved them thay fitted perfect on the hubs but the hub centric that go's in the wheels needed about 5mm taken of them to sute my wheels. So I did that.Thay still had a good 9mm of centric left on them then thay fitted perfectly. And I havn't had eny issues at all with them but I do check them now and again for tightness to 110 nm-130 nm max.Cheers from paul

Thanks for bringing this up, I too would like to throw in my 2 Bobs worth. As soon as I saw this I ran out to the shed for a look and lined up an adaptor I bought with one of my axles (on my work bench) out of my nine inch with a torana stud pattern and I got quite a shock. the Studs line up but the hub on the adaptor in the middle is way too large. I reckon there is a total of 3 to 5 mm of play.

I did notice that some people stated that the studs broke because of the leverage or offset, if this is the case what about Toranas that run Flares with 7 inch wide Deep Dish rims that have been running around for the Last 30 odd Years?

The Adaptor should be a tight fit over the hub, if it is, it should be fine. If it's not it seems, and I emphise the word "seems" that is why this Torana broke its studs at the front as if the wheels were sitting on the studs it would place great strain on the studs when turning - especially if it has any Bump Steer.

I Still Plan to use adaptors, but with a little bit of Re-engineering

Kind Regards and thank you for sharing your misfortune with us as it could save us all alot of heartache

But....Basically put.....There illegal.....So why justify the bits of shit?

The type lxss5l described would work quiet well, and be safe IMO.

wheel spacers are fine providing they are solid fixed (welded) to the wheel and you have longer wheel studs.(S,A)

But then again Every state is different with their silly laws/rules.
