Hey guys ive cum to a cross road and i was wondering weather to go with plan one which is 308 with stock rebuilt bottom end race balanced and crank knife edged, Eldebrock intake manifold, large cam which sort unknown yet, extractors, 600cfm Holley carb, crow straight cut cam gears, L34 heads, 3000rpm stall and a shift kit.

Plan two 304 Vn ss motor with Flowcraft intake, CAI, cam, extractors and sam auto setup with 3000 stall!
My major problem is how to go about putting the vn motor in has anyone gone that path before? Would it need to be engineered for the fact that its injected?

sounds like you have a lot of mixed miss infomation on the motor build, i suggest first you decide on what motor you want, then how to install it topped off with the actuall motor build.

as for late injection, depends on the block vintage and the state you register in, again first settle on what motor you want/need.

Bolt your injection gear onto the old 308 if you like, no issues at all then, you don't even have to run cats in NSW. Thats if you were in NSW, I have no idea where you are from, it's not in your signature.

Run the 304 with its heads ..carb..B/G and extractors..The VN heads flow std better than the best ported early ones.

VN heads bolt straight onto a 308 block, just remeber you will need the injection cam to match

Go the 308..Dunno about yew all but I find that the carbie 308s sound alot better than the EFI 5 litres..

For best power on cheapest level is VN EFI heads with a harrop or simular type manifold.

If you run the EFI top end on a red 308 you dont need engineers or even CATS in VIC and from what RED sais NSW is the same.

1st decide what you realy want and then go from there.

and one of the head bolts, front exhaust side,
i would probably run the old red head set up on a mild 308 especially if you already got it but for serious performance you can't go past as suggested, VN heads with a carb/cam combo to suite.

DA; i prefer brunettes if you have one.

yep they do, and you don't have the siamesed ports issues of the earlier heads.

injection and carby are equals at full throttle
everywhere else carbys suck

wouldn't the throttle body let the inj 5ltr manifold down? the carby im guessing has a bigger opening and is direct ontop of motor wheras injected is in front.

but yea injected is definately better for tuning side of things and running alot better like jap said.

depends what you want outta the car, i have a VP SS 304 in the hatch, and i must say the injection is nice......but for a toy, carb is so much easier and makes it sound better.

when the power bug bites (and it WILL) upgrading the computer and tuning is a shit load of money ontop of the actual engine upgrade. having a carb by passes all the computer nonsence.......

mines a daily driver so i need the reliabilty of EFI

my 2 cents

Exactly carbs are so easy to build and so simple and cheaper and not mention they make your engine sound like a monster!

It all depends on what you want IMO,if you want to build something wild then a carby engine is the way to go as it's cheaper to tune & upgrade. If you're looking for something with a bit of grunt & manners then efi is the way to go.

I chose to use a vs efi 304,I reckon it has more power than a mild b'cast headed 308 & is much nicer to drive.Once you learn the basics of the efi system, they are pretty easy to fix & work on.
