After talking to a painter who works on some very famous Torana's, there is no point in trying to replicate the 350 Grey and Silver, or the Wheel Silver by using the old paint codes. There was a lot of lead in the mix back then, and when compared to modern paint the colour's are totally different.
I ended up taking Eyepeelers L34 spare wheel and a never used spare from a HJ Sandman to the painter. We both agreed they were the same colour, although the L34 rim did look slightly "duller" for want of a better word. We colour matched them to the paint cards they had in the shop under sunlight, fluro light, and in the shade.
This painter uses the BASLAC paint mixing system which is produced by BASF and used by most shops who apply House Of Kolor.

Can anyone confirm that this is an ad for a 1976 HJ? Trying to work out when Holden started painting the centres body colour.

GMH gradually made the cars more feminine. With GTS they started in HX with painted bars and the big ugly mardi-gras transfers down the side (like LX SLR5000 had). HZ more so with the painted Rally rims. Sandman did the same, by losing the flued guards and having those awful coloured side stripes. Sandman always kept the traditonal silver/charcoal wheels though right up until the Rally Rims changed in mid 1978 from the steel spoked rims that we'd known since the release of HQ V8 GTS and GTS350 to the alloy rims that later appeared (in various sizes) on SL/E Gemini, Torana, Statesman and Commodore.
That brochure page is the "Son of the Beach" from brochure K179 issued February 1976 for late HJ (post LX release). You can tell it is HJ by the wiper switch on the dash (no combination switch). The wheel isn't painted body colour, just a bad scan. It is silver in the original brochure. That brochure is full of errors too, for example the dash fascia is black by 1976 for all Sandman (or any commercial with option U17 dash), not silver. The driveline table says 2850ci engine is standard on Kingswood with 3300 standard on Holden ute and van which is wrong as 2850 was dropped from all HJ other than special order on cab-chassis) at the end February 1976 and 3300 was always standard on HJ Kingswood. Also at the end of February 1976 the Holden Sandman ute was dropped leaving only Sandman van and Kingswood Sandman ute available, this brochure says you could still get a Sandamn ute.
