Forget Rory, clean that dam ugly washer motor, its letting the whole car down.

Gav

Yep clean it.

It may be "only a race car" but you've gone to such a high degree of standard so far that it's a shame to see one token origional condition part, its just not matching in.

Bring on Targa Tas we want to see this beastie in the flesh down here.

Sorry it's not just a race car, it's a TORANA HATCH.

You will notice the windscreen wiper motor is 'as is' complete with 30 years of tarnish.

Posted Image

I have left this in it's original state because, as Rory keeps reminding me, this is only a race car.

Last job of the day was to install the drop tank.

I read in the Melbourne Hearald Sun last Friday that they are adding 3 more classes to the Bathurst 12hr production race including tarmac rally cars.
Will this car be eligible?

I'd like to see that! :spoton:

Quality race car / hatch either way, just get a 2 buck can of black spray paint and paint that wiper motor! LOL Just kidding, leave it, looks fine as it is. I don't think anyone is going to be looking at it once the donk goes in.
Anyway, I was wondering, and not meaning to sound like a dumb arse, what is the purpose of the winged bits on the side of the drop tank?

Winged bits on the side of the droptank are mounting gussets ,to mount the tank and hold the weight of all that fuel ,Davis Brown tank or something I think , Do they still run the internal blader like they did on the group c's? :D

I think around 1thou mark depending how larger and what mods you want when you order it ( eg rear centre lower fuel pod pickup ) but they dont leave good clearance for road going exhaust on the sides where the gussets are...
internal blader ???dont know!!!

I thought they were filled with a big foam block or multiple foam blocks not a bladder. The foam was of a type that took bugger all of the over all volume.

They are these days with foam, Marcela foam I heard its been called I think .
I rang Davis Brown a couple of years ago about an exact group C tank , they stated that they the cam Group C rules of then required the tanks to have a bladder....but they could make what I wanted...
I can only say what I have been told ,can any one back this up???

I would like to thank those that helped this weekend get us as far as we did

A friend who has since passed worked on many a car in those days and did a lot of alloy fab./roll cage work. He told me a few years ago the 77 patterson bathurst hatch fuel tank had a dummy made up and a latex bladder installed along with miracell at a factory near moorabbin airport. The tanks ran this way so there'd be no leakage if the tanks or welds fractured due to fatigue or damage. As for the special foam - apparently it's more absorbent than spongebob. Only loses %2-3 volume and practically eliminates fuel slosh.

Dattoman - you'll have to wait til tuesday for the photos- only managed to scrape the surface in the garage (no room to move) :fool: - could only take some pics of the LJ today.

It's me that needs to thank every one, especially Datto.
Without his facilities and hoist, we would never have gotten this far.

A really big weekend put in by all, and we even managed to have a good time doing it.

I've left photo's out that identify the lads, for their own privacy, but here is BJ and Friday nights engine unveiling from the crate.

Late friday night getting bits ready for a big saturday,

Posted Image

We raised the old girl on the hoist, dropped the old crossmember and diff out, attached the engine and 'box to the new crossmember and dropped the car back down on top of it.

Posted Image

engine almost in.

Took all day though.

Posted Image

Diff in,

Posted Image

Back down on her wheels.

Hotwires are the ducks guts.

Posted Image

But being as we can't get 15 x 8 fronts, we'll settle for V5 Simmons.
