Well spotted that man.

Mars bar in the mail for you.

No UC patch, we did it the hard way.

What you are actually looking at is the UC mount tack welded into place as we went through the process of measuring and thinking.
As you alluded to in another post, the UC mounts don't simply fit in as the shape of the floor pan is different.

The actual end result was 2 modified UC mounts, with the 'short' or mount end in the factory position, and the 'long' end or supporting part of the bracket cut n shut with gussets to follow the floor pan.

When finished it actually looked a factory fitting.

Then all 4 mounts were seam & stitch welded for strength.

Thanks Baron,

Welby

Great pics, very impressive level of detail going into this build.... Inspires me to want to do the same with my hatch rebuild..! I like the cage design too, certainly should add plenty to the chassis stiffness :)

I just twigged.....

Orange and any other colours? LOL
Are you flaring it? ... white wheels?

Thanks so much for sharing the build with us all Welby.

Not knowing much about A9X/UC set up, the ability to
see and then read what you are doing re-diff set up
on a blank canvas is fascinating to say the least.

Now, as for canvasses... can I help out in any way?

Cheers, Leakey

As Leakey has already twigged, he has been doing some behind the scenes photo shopping for me.

Here is some of the great Leakey's work.

Won't have to worry about that Gump, I haven't been able to convince Datto to join me in Targa 08...................yet.

But if he does , we'll run under the Team Torana Banner. Targa West has a seperate category for teams entry. Porsche have taken it the last 2 years.

Just need a third car ...

Dave??

A man needs to keep his energy levels up
Whether it be with roast beef rolls or Mars bars
Or even that dinner you invited me for
Thank your goody wife for me

Now as for racecars
Gump we will be documenting the build with plenty of pics as it comes together
Seems I'm donating the space and hoist for the assembly process but I refuse to take the pictures (you'll thank me later)

Wheels will be gold centred Simmons V5
15x8 all round for raceday
15x8 front and 15x11 rears for street and show use

Just root for Team Torana
I'll be infront anyway so best you encourage the slower guys

Rory and Mr NOS must be busy painting the stripes on rory's pink sedan
I expected banter by now

No worries mate.

You should let me know your shirt size. I think an official Team Torana shirt should head east.

MRNOS, thanks.

Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to have you or Rory over for next years event. (you can bugger off for this year!)

Hey Welby,
that photo chop job on that car looks unreal... I have been going over in my head what to do with my LX Sun Budgie paint scheme and I sought of wanted to paint it in the theme of the 70's Torana's, but something different....and what Leakey has produced looks awesome... well done....Mate I'd love to get involved in Targa events one day as I used to do Dirt Rally for years... I used to belong to the WA LCC. I still have my Datto 1600 that I built years ago...its now retired sitting in the corner..
Of course I would like to repaint my LX Sedan racer one day to and your project has given me some inspiration  Actually it has given me the idea to paint both my cars in the same scheme... like a team sought of idea??
This is what my 2 cars look like now....

Awesome stuff leakey.

The hatch looks awesome, race cars are the go :D .

The sand blasting looks great, much better than spending 4 hours under the car while its on the car trailer with a grinder fitted with a metal wire brush to get it back to bare metal, as i have done over the past 2 days.

Are you joining the chassi rails to increase stiffness, or will the roll cage be enough.

Cheers youngy

The rules say that chassis connectors are not allowed to be used
The cage ties the body up nicely though

Mr Nos, give it a go, you never know your luck.

LX Chev 366. Good looking pair, i reckon a team scheme would go down well.

I have to pass credit on to HSVGTS for starting me off on this project. While i was kicking around looking for an A9X and watching them spiral upwards passed 60 K (aahh hindsight !!!) he was showing of his beautiful black hatch project.

It occured to me than, that i could build an A9X hatch cheaper than buy an A9X. Being as my intention was to race the thing, and with the cost of them and their scarcity, it seemed a good plan.

As it happens, the cost of this will come in much less than buying one. I am still at a cost less than the STi i drive, and as much fun as that is, i'd rather race my Torana.

Here are some pics of the rear rotors.

A guy spoke to me at Wakefield Park the other week when I was racing there and he said that he owns an A9X (and knew RedA9X) and has just bought a gen SLR 5000 and asked me if mine was a real one... I said no and after that I said that my Race car owes me XYZ amount ($30K +) and he said yep, I just paid that for the SLR... of course his doesn't have 500 Hp and can rip around the track like mine can..... not that he bought it for that...

yep its getting to the point that it is not cost affective and stupid really to race a real SLR/SS/L34/A9X in the future... sure some people have the funds to back them up... but I certainly don't.... mate I'm scared to bend mine and its only an 'S'. but that has to do with $ not the body of course...

Exactly.

And at the end of the day, the fun will be in the driving, not the owning.

Nopt that there's anything wrong with that....
